Our hearts are with the people of Nepal and Tibet following the devastating floods, and with everyone who has lost loved ones, homes and livelihoods.
The Northern Beaches is home to large and valued Tibetan and Nepalese communities, and we know many local families are deeply worried about relatives, friends and communities back home.

While LocalKind is unable to facilitate donations or overseas fundraising, we are doing what we can here, checking in with our clients, reaching out to community members, and offering support during this difficult time.

We extend our deepest sympathies to everyone who has lost loved ones, homes and livelihoods, and we hold hope for those still waiting for news of family and friends.

The Northern Beaches is one of Australia’s most liveable communities, but that can make local hardship easier to overlook.

Northern Beaches Council’s State of Wellbeing 2024 found rental affordability across the LGA is “severely unaffordable”, while residents rated access to affordable, decent housing just 3.9/10 making it the lowest-rated liveability measure. For 18–34 year-olds, financial wellbeing was only 5.3/10.

Domestic and family violence is also very real locally. NSW BOCSAR recorded 122.1 domestic violence-related assaults per 100,000 people on the Northern Beaches in the 12 months to March 2025.

Nationally, the connection between these challenges is stark: in 2024–25, almost 289,000 Australians sought specialist homelessness support, and 40% had experienced family and domestic violence. For nearly one-third of people needing short-term or emergency accommodation, that need could not be met.

This is why accessible, local services matter.

At LocalKind, someone can walk through our door and receive practical relief, skilled support, case management, advocacy and connections to housing, DFV, financial, mental health and other specialist services.

Often, people don’t arrive with one problem. Housing, violence, financial stress, mental health and isolation intersect.

A strong local safety net helps people navigate all of them before crisis becomes even deeper.

Big thanks to Nina who dropped in from True Protein today with 50 cases of True Protein drink! Protein drinks are very popular with our visitors and a great source of energy... they are in high demand and already going out the door fast. We love it when local businesses come in to support locals in the community.

This month, we're celebrating three incredible members of our LocalKind volunteer family. From left to right, meet Peta, Simon, and Jalen.
Peta joined LocalKind in May this year and wasted no time in rallying her entire network to collect and donate food to our pantry. At the time, our pantry looked the saddest it had ever looked. Peta took one look at it and decided to give it as much love as she could. Peta is already a huge part of the LocalKind family. We appreciate your commitment to our community so much.

Simon volunteers with Roses in the Ocean as a Su***de Prevention Peer Support Worker, and LocalKind is lucky enough to have him use our drop-in space for his work on Mondays and Wednesdays. You may know him from our Fishing Club social posts. He is the founder and front man of this very special club, and we feel very lucky to have him as part of the LK family.

Jalen decided that she wanted to move to Manly this year and immediately applied to be a volunteer at LocalKind. She is clearly at ease in our space and with our clients. Her time at LK has confirmed her desire to move into Community Services, and we are very proud to be a part of her journey into social work.

Thank you for sharing your time and your hearts with our community. We are so grateful to have each of you as part of the LocalKind family.

Please join us in wishing Peta, Simon and Jalen a very happy birthday!

We'd like to give a huge THANK YOU! to Brendan, Sophie and the amazing business volunteer team from https://PAG.com who came in to LocalKind to run this month's Community BBQ. In addition to a financial donation and helping us fill our stockroom with food & material aid, the PAG team served up some different types of burgers, salads and drinks to our visitors, and fostered some amazing connection and energy. We are most grateful to the team for all their kindness and cheer.

If your business or community group would like to volunteer for a BBQ or community pantry stocking activity, let us know at [email protected]

Meet "Michael" 💛

After losing his job, Michael found himself without a home and struggling to see a way forward.

When he came to LocalKind, he found more than food and practical support. He found people who believed in him.

Our team helped him replace essential identification, connect with healthcare, apply for housing, prepare for employment and stay focused on rebuilding his future.

Today, Michael is living in stable accommodation and working towards long-term independence.

Behind every success story is a community that chose to care.

Your donation today can help another person like Michael rebuild their life with dignity and hope.

LocalKind would like to thank No Time For Grime NSW for their commercial and service support. In addition to keeping us s**c and span at our community centre, they are also kind financial donors. Adam and the team provide detailed commercial cleaning and are flexible, personable and easy to deal with.

🏃 Run for KINDness. Join our Team!

What if your next run could mean a safety for someone escaping domestic violence, help for a family in crisis, or hope for someone experiencing homelessness?

This year, we're inviting our community to Run for Kindness by joining Team LocalKind in the Beach2Beach Charity Fun Run.

Whether you're tackling 3km, 6km or 14km, every step you take and every dollar you raise helps LocalKind provide practical support, safety and hope to local people in crisis.

💙 Walk. Run. Fundraise. Together, let's Run for Kindness.

Gather your friends, family or workplace and help us show that kindness can change lives.

Meet "Emma" 💛

When Emma first came to LocalKind, she had nowhere safe to turn. She was sleeping in her car, overwhelmed by financial hardship and unsure what tomorrow would bring.

Our team welcomed her with practical support, a listening ear and a plan. Together, we helped her access emergency relief, navigate housing services, and connect with the support she needed to rebuild her confidence.

Today, Emma has a safe place to call home and is beginning to rebuild her life, one step at a time.

Every day, LocalKind walks alongside people like Emma as they move from crisis to safety.

Will you help someone like Emma take their next step?
