Works on the Queenscliff pedestrian and cycle bridge reached a milestone this week.

The bridge’s superstructure was lifted into place using a 750-tonne crane.

Set to open in the next few months, the bridge will provide walkers and bike riders with a safer path across Manly Lagoon, away from busy Pittwater Road.

🚴 Half of 'cycle' is officially "sigh".
But I'm here to announce that the project is finally funded and works will commence in July. I hope the upgrade will ease frustration with the half-solution, and that the community enjoy dedicated cycleway lanes and better route connections.

It was an extraordinary evening hearing from 16 school leaders on the beaches about transport, economy, gambling, education, environment, third spaces, mental health and governance.

Their presentations were insightful, articulate and innovative.

Council has a Youth Advisory group, State has the Office of Youth,
Federal has Youth Parliament and your Councillors and MP's are always here ready to hear from you.

Today’s announcement is one made with both deep sadness and steadfast resolve.

Mercury “Merc” Psillakis should still be here. Nothing can ever replace what his family, friends and the Northern Beaches community have lost. Ever.

Still, his family and friends are bravely helping to make our beaches safer for every family who enters the ocean.

Every boardrider club will have access to shark surveillance drones and trained pilots.

Drone operations will run year-round, with trained pilots able to identify high-risk species and monitor activity in real time.

In the event of a shark sighting during a club event or training session, in the absence of direction from local beach authorities, activity will be paused with a minimum 30-minute stand-down before resuming if no further sightings occur.

In just a matter of months, the program will double the number of clubs equipped and trained, marking one of the most significant community-led safety uplifts in NSW surfing.
