πŸ† NATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR BINDJAREB BOODJA πŸ†

Last night, the Bindjareb Djilba Kaadadjan Bidi Yarning Circle was recognised at the 2026 AIATSIS Summit Awards, receiving the Excellence in Sustainability and Sustainable Futures Award.

What started as a space for yarning, sharing knowledge and strengthening connections has grown into something truly special. This award recognises the power of bringing people together to create positive outcomes for both community and Country.

Thank you to our Elders, participants, partners and everyone who has supported this journey. Your knowledge, guidance and commitment are what make this work possible.

This recognition also reflects the strength of the partnership behind the Bindjareb Djilba Kaadadjan Bidi Yarning Circle. We are proud to share this award alongside Harvey aboriginal corporation, Waroona Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation , and the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation. This achievement is a testament to the collaboration, shared knowledge and collective commitment that continue to underpin this work, and it was a privilege to present together at the 2026 AIATSIS Summit.

We gratefully acknowledge the support of Healthy Estuaries WA and the Bindjareb Djilba Protection Plan, whose investment has helped make this important work possible. We would also like to thank Peel Development Commission for sponsoring to support attendance at the AIATSIS Summit.

We are incredibly proud to see the Bindjareb Djilba Kaadadjan Bidi Yarning Circle and the strength of collaboration across Bindjareb Boodja recognised on a national stage 🌿

And if you're keeping count at home, this is our second national award in as many weeks! At this rate, we might all need to start planning display cabinets just to fit them all πŸ˜‚πŸ†

Congratulations to all of this year's AIATSIS Summit Award recipients. We are honoured to stand alongside so many inspiring Indigenous initiatives from across Australia.

πŸ–€πŸ’§πŸ’™ National Recognition for Waterwise Partnership πŸ’™πŸ’§πŸ–€

We are incredibly proud to share that Kep Katitjin – Gabi Kaadadjan Waterwise Perth Action Plan 2 has been recognised on the national stage, taking out the Organisational Excellence Award at the 2026 Australian Water Awards, held in Brisbane on 27 May. πŸ†

This prestigious award recognises the collaborative efforts of government agencies, Aboriginal organisations and community partners working together towards a shared vision of climate-resilient communities across Boorloo and Bindjareb.

Representing the program at the awards were Bindjareb Djilba Kaadadjan Bidi Yarning Circle members Sharon Cooke and Kallan Nannup, alongside program lead Winsome MacLaurin.

After receiving the Organisational Excellence Water Award at the 2025 Western Australian Water Awards, it is wonderful to see this work recognised on the national stage, reflecting the strength of the partnerships, collaboration and shared commitment behind it.

Winjan Aboriginal Corporation is proud to have contributed to this important work through our involvement in the Bindjareb Djilba Kaadadjan Bidi Yarning Circle, helping ensure Aboriginal knowledge, perspectives and connection to Country remain at the heart of water planning and management.

Congratulations to the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, Water Corporation, the Bindjareb Djilba Kaadadjan Bidi Yarning Circle and all partners involved in this outstanding achievement. Together, we continue to strengthen climate resilience and create positive outcomes for Country, community and future generations.

πŸ‚ Djeran at Winjan 🌿πŸ”₯πŸ•οΈ

As we farewell Djeran, we reflect on the wonderful visits we shared with the Year 7 students from Coodanup College during this season as they continued their Noongar Six Seasons journey.

From 29 April to 28 May, students joined us to:
πŸ•οΈ Build their own mia mia (traditional shelters)
πŸ”₯ Learn how to work together to make a karla (fire)
πŸ—£οΈ Learn Noongar language relating to Djeran season

It was deadly to see the students embracing each activity, learning alongside our Ranger team and strengthening their connection to culture, language and Country.

We are proud to continue sharing Noongar language, culture and knowledge with the next generation as the students continue their Noongar Six Seasons journey throughout the year.

Boordawan!
