It's hard to know how to support new mums sometimes.

Trying to figure out what to say, what to do, and how to offer is tough.

We are launching, as our first program, a volunteer 1:1 peer support program designed specifically for women in their last trimester or in their first 12mths of having a baby (whether its their first or 3rd child).

All volunteers get trained on a number of different topics to ensure you are giving the best possible support to the families you are paired with. We will be offering an in-person training opportunity on February 17th. Otherwise, there will be an online version as well.

We are looking for passionate women to help support new mums in your area.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or maybe even a volunteercoordinator, send me a DM or email Naomi at [email protected]

Im sorry, but no 👎

EVERY SINGLE PERSON DESERVES SUPPORT ❤️

If you have seen my previous posts about the 1:1 volunteer support program and thought "oh i dont deserve that," or "im sure someone else needs it more," NO NO NO

We all need support. Asking and receiving support is NOT a sign of weakness. It is a normal biological response to want people around you during motherhood. You need a community to raise children, and we are here to help create one for you when you need it.

Support can mean anything from a coffee date at a cafe, holding bub while you have a hot meal or a shower, helping you put a load of clothes on or maybe even cook a meal.

I need to be clear, this is not professional help. These are women helping out women as friends and peers.

Our volunteer and family forms are linked in our bio or below and ill send it through.

Info/training day ❤️

Im so excited to finally be able to have our first info session.

This will be based on our New Mum Support program, providing 1:1 peer support for women in the last trimesterof pregnancy and/or forst 12mths after birth.
If you are interested in helping new mums in your area, come along and see what it's all about.

We will be looking for volunteer support workers as well as volunteer coordinators to help manage the volunteers.

Also, if you are a family that would like support, you are welcome to come along too 🥰.

Everyone deserves to find their support system and community.

AGM 2.0

Unfortunately, we couldn't complete our first AGM due to not enough people attending, so we are trying again.

This will be done in our closed facebook group via a Live stream. You don't have to become a full member to attend. If you are interested in just listening to what we want to achieve, please send me a DM, and I will send you an invite to our group.

Let's get this started 🙏. We can't officially start our programs until this step is completed ❤️.

See you Saturday 😘

Are you interested in volunteering for our new mum support program?

We are looking for women to join us for our launch in 2024.

Empowering Mums offers a free home visiting service in the Peel & Rockingham areas that supports the health and wellbeing of mums in the last trimester of pregnancy, the first year of the baby’s life and beyond if needed.

The aim of the project is to help parents adjust to a new baby and provide a support system that helps them cope and understand what they are going through and guidance to mothers who feel they lack adequate support to make the transition smoothly.

Our volunteers offer non-judgmental and confidential support to new mothers on a regular weekly basis. Visits are usually 2 hours per week and take place in the family home, they are unstructured and tuned to the mother’s needs. Mostly, mothers and volunteers spend their time together talking and caring for the baby.

Other ways our volunteers support mums include:
💚helping isolated mums to get out of the house
💜looking after the baby while mums have a shower
💚accompanying mums to the health clinic, doctor’s appointments, play group
💜looking after children while mums go for a walk, to yoga or the gym
💚bathing/ feeding the children
💜changing nappies and dressing the child
💚reading stories, playing games with the child
💜hanging washing out/ bringing it in / folding it
💚unpacking the dishwasher or washing dishes
💜helping with food prep
💚taking children for a walk.

The support mums receive will probably be different each day, depending on the mums needs, their child and time of day.

We are looking for empathetic women who are passionate about improving the wellbeing of new mums so that they can enjoy motherhood and establish nurturing bonds with their babies.

I would like to thank Deb from Support for New mums for allowing me to bring her amazing program over to the West. I hope I can make as big a mark as she has.
