Coastal Waste Warriors

Coastal Waste Warriors We are a community group keeping our waterways clean. Our mission is to CLEAN, EDUCATE & PROTECT. Contact us for more information.

At Coastal Waste Warriors we believe that when we connect as a community, we make a difference. Our mission is to keep our waterways clean to protect our natural environment and educate about our waste & plastic pollution to inspire our wider community to care for the places we live in. We are proud to be local ambassadors of the Tangaroa Blue ‘Australian Marine Debris Initiative’ (AMDI) database

and the Keep Australia Beautiful WA ‘Adopt a Spot’ program. By recording the data of litter picked up this is a way everyone can become involved in citizen science not only by the removal of litter and marine debris but also as an integral part of finding solutions to stop the flow of litter into our waterways and oceans. Our Coastal Waste Environmental Hub is officially in action! 🩵🥳🌏

This week we welcomed Singaporean international high school students from the WV Education program 🇸🇬

We held two sessions across two days at Pyramids Beach 🏖️ It was a great opportunity to set up our first education sessions with the Hub as this is the spot we first started our cleanups!❤️

We started the session with taking the students to see some dolphins that had come to say hello 👋🐬We moved onto a beach clean up and followed with a review of what was collected- day one 11.5kg of rubbish and day two 13.6kg of rubbish!!🤯 just over 25kgs!! What an effort👏

We went layed out the rubbish and went through the findings and followed with educational activities including; the 50/50 game using the eco-wheel, talked about plastics and then went through the 7 R’s.♻️

We loved the opportunity to teach students about the impact of litter on our waterways and look forward to using the Hub in more educational setting over the coming months. 😊🌊

There’s never a dull moment & never a dull find at our Clean-Ups! Complete metal fly screens, sausage dog cups or clothes line pegs aren’t items you’d expect to come across on the beach but alas they find their way there anyway… 😕
Good thing Mandurah is rallying to clear this litter up one beach at a time! 🚮💪☀️🏝️
