A huge thank you to Hill’s Pet Nutrition for your incredibly generous donation of wet food! 🐾❤️

We were thrilled to receive a wonderful selection of high-quality wet food, including food specifically tailored to the needs of older cats as well as kittens. Having food suitable for cats at different stages of life is incredibly valuable to us and the animals in our care.

High-quality food is always very much appreciated. The cost of feeding our foster cats and long-term residents can sometimes rival — and even outweigh — the cost of their medical bills. Our amazing foster carers also generously provide food for their fosters, often at their own expense, so donations like this make a huge difference.

Thank you, Hill’s Pet Nutrition , for supporting our cats and helping us provide them with the nutrition they deserve. Your generosity means so much to us and to all of our furry residents and fosters. 🐱💕🐾

Allow us to introduce Mr Darcy, a rather handsome gentleman who has undergone quite the transformation since arriving at Little Paws Kitten Rescue. Found wandering the streets as an entire male, he arrived at the pound a very frightened boy who preferred to observe the world from a safe, elevated perch. Back then, anyone daring to pass his cage was greeted with a quiet growl that made it quite clear he was not accepting visitors. Much like his namesake in Pride and Prejudice, however, Mr Darcy has discovered that first impressions don't always tell the whole story.

Since coming into care, this dapper fellow has made wonderful progress. His days of hiding away and growling at everyone are becoming a distant memory, and he has discovered that human hands can actually be rather lovely, especially when they deliver a good pat. Of course, he is still a gentleman with standards, so affection is best offered when he is in the mood. These days, he will even accept attention from visiting carers at the cattery, which is a tremendous step forward for this once-terrified boy.

Once Mr Darcy decides you are worthy of his company, you'll discover a sweet, gentle-natured fellow who enjoys being around his people. His ideal evening involves curling up beside you on the couch while you binge-watch your favourite television series. He is particularly partial to chin scritches and big pats, and when you find just the right spot, he will look up at you with such adoration in his eyes that you may find yourself wondering who is actually courting whom.

Mr Darcy is also a devoted admirer of fine dining. He absolutely loves his food and still seems a little amazed that delicious meals appear every single day. What a marvellous arrangement! He has also discovered that being cute can be a very useful skill. With his charming face and those irresistible eyes, he knows precisely how to persuade his humans that just one more treat is perfectly reasonable. Honestly, who could possibly refuse such a distinguished gentleman?

So, if you have been searching for a dapper gentleman to share your couch, keep you company during television marathons and occasionally convince you to bend the rules where treats are concerned, Mr Darcy may be just the gentleman for you.

All Little Paws Kitten Rescue cats and kittens come to you vet checked, desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed, flea treated, and litter trained. As we are a rescue group, the adoption fee is not negotiable. Little Paws Kitten Rescue cats and kittens are indoor or cat enclosure only and must go to homes that intend them to stay that way. This is for their safety, the health of the cat or kitten and for the environment. It is our foster carer’s choice as to which home a cat or kitten goes to. We match the cats and kittens to the adoptee; we do not necessarily “sell” to the first caller. As our foster carers are all volunteers raising the cats and kittens in their own home, we would appreciate you letting them know if you cannot make an appointment.

💔 12 DAYS INTO OCTOBER. 36 SURRENDER REQUESTS. AND WE’RE ONLY JUST GETTING STARTED. 💔

And that’s only the requests that have come through in writing.

It doesn’t include:
🐾 The people who stop us in public when they see our cat van.
🐾 The people tagging us in surrender posts across social media.
🐾 The calls from other rescue groups that are closing down and desperately need help.
🐾 The daily phone calls and emails from veterinary clinics asking us to take animals.
🐾 And our current top contender: the multiple daily calls from local pounds asking us to save an animal on their final day of holding.

Oh, and did we mention that many of these requests are for more than one animal?

We love what we do. We love the tiny, the fluffy, the old, the grumpy, the broken, the scared and the ones who need a little extra help to realise that humans can be kind.

But here is the heartbreaking truth: WE CANNOT SAVE THEM ALL.

We are a small rescue group. Our foster carers are volunteers who open their homes, their hearts and often their wallets to help animals in need. Almost all of our carers are already at capacity, and finding room for just one more is becoming increasingly difficult.

And not every foster home is suitable for every cat.

🐈 Adult cats: We have a limited number of carers who can take them, as not every resident cat is willing to welcome a new adult housemate.

🤰 Pregnant mums and mums with kittens: An even smaller number of carers have the space, experience and environment needed to safely care for them.

🍼 Neonatal kittens: An even smaller group can take on the round-the-clock care these tiny babies need. Did you know we currently have THREE litters of bottle-fed kittens in care? That means feeds throughout the day and night, cleaning, toileting, monitoring weights and worrying over every little change. These babies cannot simply be left alone while life carries on around them.

Every available space matters. Every suitable foster home matters. And every single carer has a limit.

💔 So, we are asking you: please be kind when we have to say no.

Saying no to a surrender request breaks our hearts. We often have no idea what will happen to that animal after we turn them away. We carry that uncertainty with us, and we wish more than anything that we could say yes to every single one.

What hurts even more is being lashed out at for not taking an animal because it isn't a pedigree or a so-called designer breed.

Let us be absolutely clear: we are not saying no because your cat isn't a particular breed. We are saying no because our carers are full.

Our carers have squeezed in just one more time and time again. They have made space when there seemingly wasn't any. They have taken on the extra litter, the unexpected medical case, the cat who needed somewhere safe that very same day.

But there comes a point where there is simply nowhere left to go.

Please remember that behind every rescue group are real people. People who cry over the ones they couldn't help. People who lie awake thinking about the animals still waiting. People who spend their own time caring for vulnerable little lives while trying to balance work, families and their own animals.

But we can't. And being made to feel guilty for having limits doesn't magically create another foster home.

We care. We are trying. We are tired. And we are doing the best we can. 💗

Some of our rescue cats may not be suitable for adoption and will need long-term, or even permanent, foster care with our volunteer foster carers because of their age, health, behaviour or past experiences.

Choosing to sponsor a cat helps us say yes to those cats too! It helps give us the resources to provide them with somewhere safe to live, people who care about them, and the time and support they need for as long as they need us.

Your sponsorship contributes towards the everyday costs of caring for a cat, including food, litter, parasite prevention and veterinary care. A $20 monthly sponsorship can go a long way towards helping us provide the care a cat needs, but every contribution makes a difference. Whether you give $5, $10, $20 or more, your support helps us continue caring for cats who need us. Anything over $2 is tax deductible.

The primary difference between a calico and a tortoiseshell (tortie) cat is the presence of white fur: calicos have distinct patches of white, black, and orange, while torties feature a mottled or brindled mix of black and orange with little to no white

Esme is a beautiful Tortie with the gentlest little soul and the biggest voice! We are currently assisting her owner by advertising on Facebook and our website. All adoption arrangements, including fees, will be an agreement between the current owner and the new owner.
