As we take a moment to look back on an incredible 11-week National Tour 🗺️, we think of all the precious Australian wildlife we were able to treat along the way.

❤️🩹A fractured wing in a Grey Goshawk.
❤️🩹Pneumonia and giardia in a Kangaroo Island Kangaroo joey.
❤️🩹A mouth infection in a Diamond Python.
❤️🩹Eye surgery on an Eastern Quoll.

Through the tour, the team travelled 16,629kms, took 76 flights, and needed 56 nights of accommodation.

We could not have taken our Mobile Wildlife Hospital "Matilda" 🚛 and our skilled veterinary team across Australia without the support of companies like Stage and Screen Travel . Stage and Screen ensured our veterinary and tour teams were covered from travel to accommodation throughout the National Tour.🙏

If you've been following us from the beginning, you'll understand why Sea Turtles 🐢 hold a special place in our hearts- the very first patient seen at Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital was a Green Turtle named "April"!

In 2020, "April" was found with a long, thick line of rope protruding from her mouth, which a veterinary examination revealed had also made its way down into her stomach. Our veterinary team performed delicate surgery to remove the entire length of rope, and after a few weeks' rehabilitation with Australian Seabird and Turtle Rescue (ASTR), "April" was released back into the big blue! 🥰

Since then, we have treated over 200 sea turtles!
From 10g Green Turtles to 100kg Loggerhead Turtles, and Critically Endangered Hawksbill Turtles- we are proud to work alongside organisations like ASTR to give these magnificent ocean beings the treatment and care they deserve.

You can help protect sea turtles (and the countless other marine animals they share the ocean with) by:
🪸 Slowing down on the water and watching out for wildlife
🪸Using propeller guards to reduce risk of harm to wildlife
🪸Reduce your plastic use and dispose of all waste responsibly
🪸Be a responsible fisher, taking all gear with you and avoid barbed hooks
🪸Support wildlife-friendly safety measures in the ocean such as drones, and urge your local representatives to avoid mechanisms such as shark nets

To our sponsors- THANK YOU!😍

Whether it was ensuring that "Matilda" and her prime mover 🚛 were in top shape for travel, overseeing accommodation and on-site transport for our tour teams, or providing generous donations to support tour costs- this tour would not have been possible without your support!

💚 What if future generations never experience the Australia we grew up with?

"Going to the national park and seeing the Lyre bird showing off its beautiful feathers, they are such elusive birds and I felt special seeing them.
The cheeky possums coming into our gardens to eat our passionfruit - the mother possum bringing her joeys along for the ride and teaching them the ways of the world."

For Wildlife Recovery Australia’s Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr Bree, these memories are deeply personal and they’re part of why she’s dedicated her life to protecting wildlife today.❤

Because every day, native animals are facing growing pressure from habitat loss, climate disasters, disease and increasing demand for rescue and rehabilitation.

But together, we can still protect the future of Australia’s wildlife. 🌿

Right now, every new monthly donation will be matched for 12 months thanks to our proud matching partners, the Garry White Foundation, up to $30,000.

That means as a Wildlife Guardian, your monthly gift could help provide DOUBLE the treatment, rehabilitation and second chances for sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife.

Since 2020, together we’ve helped treat more than 12,000 wildlife patients but there is still so much more to protect.

Because once these moments are lost, they’re incredibly difficult to bring back.

🐨 Head to https://wildlifeguardians.raiselysite.com/ link in our bio to become a Wildlife Guardian today and help protect Australia’s wildlife into the future.

If you’d prefer to make a one-off EOFY donation, you can still support wildlife through the same link.

What better day than World Environment Day to announce our exciting collaborative partnership with Australian Wildlife Conservancy!🤝

Thanks to our collaboration and the incredible generosity of Clive Magowan and Ian Kavanagh, Australian Wildlife Conservancy is turning a 1200-hectare property into a predator-proof wildlife sanctuary.

This richly biodiverse region in the Mongo Valley, NSW is home to more than 250 species of native vertebrates including 21 frogs, 148 birds, 52 mammals and 30 reptiles.🐍

The acquisition will also bring two additional threatened species under AWC's protection, the Brush-tailed Rock-wallaby and the Kate's Leaf-tailed Gecko. It also supports a population of Koalas.🐨

“Every species added to our network brings us closer to our mission,” said AWC’s Chief Science Officer, Dr John Kanowski. “With the addition of Brush-tailed Rock-wallabies at Mongo Valley, AWC will now be protecting 12 of Australia’s 17 Rock-wallaby species across our sanctuaries and partnership areas, including six of the seven federally listed threatened species.”

"Wildlife Recovery Australia is excited to collaborate with a visionary organisation like Australian Wildlife Conservancy," said WRA Founder and CEO Dr Stephen Van Mil. “Our veterinary team’s expertise in the unique physiology and anatomy of a vast number of native species will contribute to the body of knowledge required to successfully recover species under threat of extinction.”

To "Matilda's" 🚛 amazing drivers - Rob Jarvis, Dave King and Peter Robinson - THANK YOU! We literally could not have taken the show on the road without you!

Big props to Rob Jarvis, BBWH's Volunteer Driver, who commenced and concluded our National Tour as driver. Rob has donated his skills and time to not only the National Tour but to getting Matilda to and from essential maintenance, safety and roadworthiness appointments to get her ready for the National Tour. 🤩

Transporting Australia's largest mobile wildlife hospital in a 22 wheel truck is no small feat, particularly when that truck travels 🗾 16,629 kms across Australia and back! Thankfully, we had the best in the business behind the wheel to ensure "Matilda" arrived at each destination safely (including some remarkable driving skills to load her on and off the StraitLink and SeaLink KI ferries) ⛴!
