The Westernport Catchment Landcare Network (WPCLN) is a community based network that aims, through community action, to help preserve, protect and enhance the environment of Westernport Catchment by working with Landcare groups, private landholders, government agencies and local businesses to achieve sustainable natural resource management outcomes. Landcare projects include establishment of indig

enous plants, protective fencing, extensive w**d and feral animal control, community education on biodiversity and a host of land management issues and wildlife monitoring. The Westernport Catchment Landcare Network is a not-for-profit organisation. History
The WPCLN covers approximately 2100 square kilometres across the Baw Baw, Cardinia and City of Casey Shires. Our Network has evolved from an original four Landcare groups to fourteen groups scattered across the catchment from Pearcedale in the south west across to Lang Lang in the south east and Harkaway to Nayook in the north and Westernport Bay in the south. Since 1999 we have completed hundreds of on ground projects in partnership with landholders, various government agencies and local government.

Recently our Facilitator in collaboration with the Jindivick Landcare visited local schools as part of the 'Hunt for the Giants' Trees project. This project focused on highlighting the impotence of our old growth trees and the significance they hold for our native animals, farm animals, soil, air, water and of course US!
Collaborating with local schools was a key part of this project. Incursions were completed at 5 local schools where students learned how important trees are while getting some hands on experience looking for Arboreal creatures in trees at their school. In this tree we found evidence of nesting birds. Jindivick Landcare will be hosting a showcase event to reveal the biggest tree as part of the hunt for big trees in our paddocks, bushland and roadsides.
the project is supported by the Victorian Government through the Victorian Landcare Grants.

Thanks to our Coast Care Action Grant, Intrepid Landcare enjoyed an afternoon out on the kayaks to experience the Estuary of Warneet and Westernport Bay. A great activity to showcase the importance of connection to the land with participants. This activity bookends the amazing work done improving the environment with w**d works in the North Westerport Conservation Reserve.
