Tooradin Fire Brigade is proud to congratulate Mr Ian Trueman and Mr Simon Judge on being recognised as recipients of the Holt Local Legends Award, presented on behalf of Federal Member for Holt, Cassandra Fernando MP.

The award recognises individuals whose commitment strengthens the communities in which they live and serve. Ian and Simon are worthy recipients.

While both are well known as dedicated volunteer firefighters, they have also devoted countless hours to the CFA Fire Equipment Maintenance Program. Through this work, they assist local businesses, sporting clubs, community organisations and public facilities to maintain compliant, reliable fire protection equipment, while providing practical advice that helps reduce risk before an emergency occurs.

It is a contribution that is rarely in the spotlight, yet plays an important role in building safer and more resilient communities.

Congratulations Ian and Simon on this well-deserved recognition, and thank you for the professionalism, knowledge and commitment you continue to bring to Tooradin Fire Brigade and the wider community.

On Saturday evening, the Tooradin Fire Brigade celebrated 80 years of serving our community. It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on our history, recognise the dedication of our members, and celebrate those who continue to make our brigade what it is today.

A heartfelt congratulations to all award recipients. Every milestone represents countless hours of volunteering, training, fundraising, and being there when our community needed you most. Thank you also to everyone involved in organising such a memorable evening.

Among the many achievements recognised, one stands above all others.

70 years of service – Mr Ted Clay.

There are very few people who dedicate seven decades of their life to serving others. Ted joined the CFA as a young man, not long after the Tooradin Fire Brigade was established, and has remained a constant presence throughout generations of firefighters.

Over those 70 years, Ted has answered the call at many of Victoria’s most significant emergencies, including Ash Wednesday, Black Saturday, and countless other fires, storms and incidents that have shaped our state’s history.

His leadership extends far beyond Tooradin. Ted served as Group Officer for the former Cranbourne Group and became the inaugural Group Officer of what is now the Casey Group. As Captain of Tooradin Fire Brigade for more than two decades, he helped shape not only the brigade, but the culture of volunteer service that continues today.

Perhaps Ted’s greatest legacy isn’t measured in years, positions held or fires attended. It is the people he has influenced. Generations of firefighters, young community members and volunteers have benefited from his quiet guidance, steady leadership and willingness to share his knowledge.

The phrase “local legend” is often overused. In Ted’s case, it barely scratches the surface.

Across seven decades, there are families who returned home safely, communities that recovered, and volunteers who became leaders because Ted Clay was there. Many people—whether they realise it or not—owe a debt of gratitude to his service.

Despite everything he has achieved, Ted remains one of the most humble people you could ever hope to meet.

From everyone at Tooradin Fire Brigade, congratulations Ted on an extraordinary 70 years of dedicated volunteer service.

Thank you for your leadership, your mentorship, your friendship, and your unwavering commitment to protecting our community.

🚒 Tooradin CFA Bestows Life Membership on Gary Murray 🚒

On a perfect winter’s morning the Tooradin Fire Brigade was proud to award Life Membership to Gary Murray in recognition of his outstanding dedication and service to our brigade and community.

Gary’s contribution to Tooradin CFA spans many years and many roles. Throughout his time with the brigade, he has served as a firefighter, Lieutenant, and Fire Equipment Maintenance Officer, always willing to step forward wherever help was needed.

Beyond his operational and leadership roles, Gary was also part of the small but committed group of members who devoted countless hours to building and developing the facilities that our brigade enjoys today. The station, training areas, and infrastructure that support our volunteers and community stand as a lasting reminder of the hard work and vision of members like Gary.

Life Membership is one of the highest honours a brigade can bestow, recognising exceptional and sustained service. Gary’s commitment, leadership, and contribution to Tooradin CFA have left a lasting legacy that will benefit our brigade for generations to come.

Please join us in congratulating Gary on this well-deserved recognition and thanking him and his lovely wife Kathy for years of dedicated service to the Tooradin community.

🚒 Cluster Training in Tooradin – Monday 22 June 🚒

On Monday evening, CFA volunteers from Tooradin and neighbouring brigades will be undertaking a cluster training exercise in and around the Tooradin area from 7:00pm.

Training will focus on some of the local area’s higher-risk emergency scenarios, helping our crews build skills, strengthen teamwork and ensure we are prepared when our community needs us most.

⚠️ Residents are asked not to be alarmed if they see fire trucks, emergency vehicles or firefighters operating in the area. This is a planned training exercise.

👋 Feel free to stop by, say hello and have a chat with our volunteers from across the district. We’d love to meet you and answer any questions about what we do.

We’re always looking for new volunteers. Whether you’re interested in firefighting, community education, administration or supporting your local brigade, there’s a role for everyone. Volunteer numbers are under pressure across many brigades, and your local community needs people willing to step forward.

Together we’re building a safer, stronger and more resilient community.

🚒🔥 TOORADIN & KOO WEE RUP CFA ARE COMING TO RUTTER PARK🔥🚒

This Sunday, come down and meet the incredible volunteers from the Tooradin CFA and Koo Wee Rup Fire Brigade as part of the Very Special Kids Fundraiser Round! ❤️💚 v ❤️💙

The crews will be on site throughout the day with fire trucks on display, giving kids and families the chance to get up close, explore the appliances, jump in the driver’s seat and chat with local volunteers about what it’s really like being part of the CFA. 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

Being a CFA volunteer is about so much more than fighting fires — it’s about supporting the community, helping people in emergencies, learning new skills, building lifelong friendships and being part of something bigger. ❤️

There’ll be plenty happening for the whole family including:

The Tooradin CFA would like to sincerely thank our incredible community for turning out and supporting our ANZAC Day service.

The turnout for the 10am community service was nothing short of outstanding. To see so many members of our town gather together in quiet reflection and respect was a powerful reminder that the ANZAC spirit is alive and well in Tooradin. A special thank you to the Tooradin Lions Club, whose bacon and egg rolls brought people together before and after the service a simple gesture that continues to build the strong sense of community we are so proud of.

This year’s commemorations were marked by a special tribute, the sounding of the cannon, multiple moving flyovers, a minute’s silence, and a powerful rendition of our national anthem by Cassandra Fernando MP. Each element served as a reminder of the sacrifice, courage, and mateship that define the ANZAC spirit.

It was truly humbling to stand alongside so many families, veterans, players, and supporters united in remembrance. From the service through to the Tooradin Dalmore Football & Netball Club’s ANZAC Day match, the spirit of the day was carried with pride both on and off the field.

Thank you for taking the time to pause, reflect, and honour those who served and those who never made it home.

Our sincere appreciation to all the volunteers and helpers, who helped to make the day special.
