Last week, one of our Junior's groups travelled down to the hot fire training ground to put some of their skills in to practice. They got to experience the reality of the heat and danger of firefighting in a safe and controlled environment thanks to the staff at the training ground. Also a big thanks to our Junior Leaders for helping facilitate and make this possible!

We've got a 23-19!

If that made you think of Monsters, Inc., you're not alone.

Thankfully there weren't any contaminated socks involved—just Edithvale CFA members maintaining their specialist skills in gas-tight chemical suits, atmospheric monitoring and hazardous materials response.

While many people know us for fighting fires and responding to road accidents, our volunteers are also trained for incidents involving dangerous gases, chemical spills and other hazardous substances. Regular training ensures our members are ready to respond safely whenever these specialised skills are needed.

The below photos show one of our members in a gas-tight chemical suit during a training exercise. While we hope we rarely need this equipment, maintaining these skills means we're prepared for the unexpected.

Our members have been responded locally and out to jobs as far as Frankston, Yarra Valley and beyond.

National AusAlert Test – Monday 27 July
Australia's new AusAlert emergency warning system will be tested nationwide tomorrow, Monday 27 July at around 2:00 pm AEST, ahead of its official launch in October.
The test will be sent as a Critical Alert, meaning it will:
📱 Appear as a system notification on your device.
🔊 Sound a loud siren for around 10 seconds.
🔕 Override Silent and Do Not Disturb settings.
Critical Alerts are used only for the most serious emergencies, where immediate action may be required.
If receiving the test could place you at risk, turn your device off or put it in aeroplane mode at least one hour before the test and keep it that way for 24 hours afterwards.
