🌳Pruning Fire-Damaged Fruit Trees Workshop🌳

▶️Workshop summary
Katie and Hugh will be reviewing and pruning the trees in Liz and David’s 20-tree orchard, which was burnt in January, with some trees badly damaged and some only slightly impacted. Learn how to decide whether a tree is worth saving, and the different options for recovery pruning.

▶️What’s provided:
Pruning theory and basic pruning cuts
Understanding the different types of fire damage
How to decide if a tree is worth saving
Recovery plans for different trees

▶️What to bring:
Warm clothes (the workshop is outside)
Waterproof footwear (the ground is very wet)
Secateurs (if you have any - some will be available on the day)
Photos of your burnt trees if you want them reviewed

▶️FAQ
Q: Where should I park?
A: Liz and David’s driveway is unpassable at the moment (muddy), so park at 17 Twyford Street and follow the flag to the gate into the orchard.
Q: Who is this workshop for?
A: Anyone whose trees have been impacted by fire. This workshop is not open to the general public.
Q: Will this be a hands-on workshop?
A: Yes, we’ll be covering (and practicing) basic pruning cuts. We’ll also go through the pruning principles, talk about the different types and degrees of fire damage, and then demonstrate pruning on some trees.

The Mothers' Union (MU) of Australia, through the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne and Bendigo, have generously donated $1300 to the Community House.

The MU supports communities facing adversity and recovering from the impacts of natural disasters, and the organisations working with them.

Their generous gift was handed over during a visit by Jennifer Devlin from Bendigo, pictured out front of the House with Managers Amy and Kir.

Free fruit trees!

Neil Barraclough from the Heritage and Rare Fruit Network has generously donated fruit trees for fire-affected people. How lovely!

Now is the time for planting. These can be collected from the Harcourt Valley Community House anytime, just to the left of the front door.
