Community-led Safe Spaces Network Gathering

Early October 2026, volunteers and representatives from Community-led Safe Spaces including Castlemaine Safe Space came together in Brisbane for the Roses in the Ocean Community-led Safe Spaces Network Gathering
The event reinforced a shared commitment to connection, lived experience and creating opportunities for people to feel heard, supported and less alone, and we were so heart-warmed to be part of it.

This Saturday the 24th get yourself down to the She's Crafty - Yarn Lovers' Market - at the Castlemaine Town Hall. Not only will there be a yarn-tastic market brimming with crafty fabulousness, proceeds from the raffle and fibre-style prints sold on the day will be donated to us!

PEER COMPANION WARM LINE

**Now providing a 24 hour call-back service**

(1800 777 337 in Australia) connects people with lived experience of su***de to trained peer companions for compassionate, understanding support.

The warm line is a unique call-back service providing a safe place for people with a lived experience of su***de to connect with others with a similar lived experience for a chat, in a shared space of compassion, understanding and respect.

The warmline is created by Roses in the Ocean

NEXT MEETING OCTOBER 26th 6pm

The ELM Peer Support Group meets monthly and is open to anyone who has been affected by the loss of another by su***de.

Meeting formats are relaxed and inclusive.
The group is friendly and warm, and aims to provide a place for sharing, discussion, and hope, and to reduce social isolation and stigma around su***de.
ELM is an open group, so anyone is free to attend any meeting. The group is run by volunteers who have lost someone they love to su***de, and have been trained to help support others.

Safe Space volunteers had a great time at the Seniors Month Expo at Castlemaine Community Lunch this week.
Lunch was extra delicious too, as was the sparkly entertainment by the !

FREE SESSIONS FOR PARENTS - AND BRING THE KIDS

*Free sessions designed for parents and carers to provide calm, practical, evidence-based guidance to help families prepare for the upcoming summer heatwaves and bushfire season.
*Important to note that children are welcome and activities for kids are being provided.

*Harcourt Valley Primary School, 3 Wilkinson Street on Wednesday 4 November, 5.00pm - 7:00pm
*Chewton Primary School, 1 Hunter Street, Wednesday 11 November, 6.00pm - 8:00pm
*Campbells Creek Primary School, 127 Main Road, Wednesday 18 November, 6.00pm - 8:00pm
*Castlemaine Community House. 30 Templeton Street, Castlemaine, Friday 20th November 10:30am - 12:30pm

The sessions will have two streams:
A. Parent Information Session
Preparing for bushfire season with children

Talking about emergencies without causing fear

Supporting children through anxiety and sensory triggers

Family planning and practical preparedness

Local support and resources

B. Children’s Creative Play Space
Children can be present at the event. They can participate in:

Creative play stations

Art, building, sensory-friendly activities

Quiet zones

Supervised indoor or outdoor play (weather permitting)

The sessions are being delivered in collaboration with Castlemaine Community House and Dhelkaya Health.

Our free community session brings together emergency services, government agencies and community organisations involved in emergency response, relief and recovery.

Learn who does what during an emergency, how warnings are communicated, where to find trusted information and what support may be available afterwards.

The panel will also share practical steps people can take to prepare their households, properties, businesses and communities.

When: Thursday 15 October, 10.00am to 2.00pm
Where: Campbells Creek Community Centre
