On this weekend of remembrance, it feels fitting to pause and reflect on compassion.

Not only the compassion shown in moments of conflict and sacrifice, but the kind we are invited to practice every day — quietly, collectively, and with intention.

Lisa Behan's Confluence of Compassion participatory installation began with a simple question:
What would it mean to live in a world flooded with compassion?

At its core, compassion asks us to recognise our shared humanity. Carried through imagined currents, through rainfall and return — sky to earth and back again — compassion becomes something shared, something circulating beyond us.

As we remember this weekend, perhaps we can also ask:
How might we contribute to this confluence?
What might we release, and what might we carry forward?

Because like water, compassion sustains us.
And like water, it connects us all.

It was such a privilege to have Dr Nadeeka Rathnayake judge our inaugural Award for Aqua Limina: The Pulse of Water – Creek to Coast.

Her selection was guided by the curatorial framework, emphasising water as a dynamic, living system and encourages works that move beyond representation to actively engage with environmental processes, perception, and relational understanding.

In presenting the award Nadeeka spoke of the high level of artistic and conceptual strength across diverse approaches, including material-based practices, immersive digital environments, sound installations, and painting. It was no easy task to select one person.

Stay tuned into our socials as well share with you her reflections on each of the highly commended artists.

You can also get a copy of the Catalogue to read about the 27th Artists who created "edgy" and immersive work that challenges us to look closer at the world around us. https://www.gccreativeinc.org/aqua-limina-catalogue

It is so great to get up close and touchy with artwork.

Barbara Stephenson's My Creek Bed is a warm and inviting textile. Made from old rugs and blankets, it traces a creek flowing to the coast and celebrates the joy of escaping to the country for a picnic of a bushwalk. Barbara works with textiles for their feel, colour, and the stories of past use that she draws from woollen blankets. Her stylised landscapes come from memories of places travelled or imagined. They reduce the world to lines and swirls that shift between landscape and aerial view.
Just as maps tell stories of travelling over the land, these textile landscapes tell a story of the forces that have formed them.

WOW that week went fast.

This time last week, we were buzzing at The Hive Gallery for the grand finale of Aqua Limina. Looking back at this photo, I’m reminded of how special it was to have the Honourable Gail O'Neill join us to present the People's Choice Award. 🏆

Sharing the couch with Justine Dillon and looking out at all of you to share the results, it felt like the perfect conclusion to such a meaningful journey. The conversations we had about our local landscape, water, and the power of art really came to life in that room.

Huge thanks again to everyone who showed up, voted, and supported our 27 incredible artists. While the exhibition has come to a close, the energy it sparked is only just beginning! ✨

Everything is connected and nothing works without Country, Community and Culture.

Without connection- No Mob - no true restoration to Nature.

Recently we were honoured to have Justine Dillon, Kombumerri, Noonuccal, Ngugi, and Gorenpul Traditional Owner, and Manager of Guanaba I.P.A. and the Kombumerri Rangers, guide us through a powerful smoking ceremony.

This ceremony not only cleanses and connects us but serves as a reminder that landscape regeneration must start with First Nations people and knowledge.

At HBB we believe in the power of collaboration and look forward to learning from and working alongside the Kombumerri Rangers on our mission to 'champion arts, health and nature-based initiatives that contribute to human and environmental flourishing'.

Caring for Country is the foundation, to grow together.
