We're a group of progressive, energetic Rotarians who help the local & greater community. See our events for more details. We are Rotary, but not as you know it.

We meet for breakfast on the 1st Wednesday and dinner on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Our club consists of women who catch up on the first and third Wednesday of every month for breakfast. Please see our events page for details of time and place. At these breakfasts we discuss local issues & plan strategies on how we can help.

24 October is World Polio Day.
Rotary Club of Townsville Saints supports the ongoing End Polio Now project with an annual pledge donation.
At today's regular informal coffee catch up with club members, we spoke of and recognised the global health impact that Rotary has made in this cause. Our 'purple pinkie' fingerprints is repesenative of the historic story behind this project.

The origin of the "Purple Pinkie" stems from practical on-the-ground logistics during mass vaccination campaigns in developing countries. When millions of children are given the Oral Poliovirus Vaccine (OPV) over a very short period, formal record-keeping is often impossible due to low literacy rates, a lack of computerized tracking, or a lack of official identification.

To prevent a child from accidentally receiving a double dose of the vaccine—and to quickly identify who has missed out—health workers and Rotary International volunteers began painting the pinkie fingernail of a child's left hand with a topical, indelible purple dye (often Gentian Violet). The ink stays on the skin and nail for days, serving as a foolproof visual marker.
