At genU we’re united in our mission to empower people across the country to reach their full potential. Our story started in 1952 when a small group of parents in Geelong dreamed of a world for their children where disability would not stand in the way of their opportunities and potential. Today, we have more than 3600 staff and volunteers providing support and services across Australia nationally. Every day our work supports people through our disability support, seniors services, training and employment services for job seekers, students and business partners in the community. As a ‘profit for purpose organisation we reinvest back into areas that help to build more inclusive communities. The genU family includes genU Training, MatchWorks, Activ Foundation, Seasons Cafe and Catering, The Otway Kitchen, Eastern Hub Geelong, Barwarre Gardens Retirement Village and St Laurence Park Retirement Village.. What can a respite stay look like? 🏡

At genU, it’s shaped around you. Residents can take part in activities, enjoy time relaxing at home or build their skills, confidence and capacity.

Some love their respite stays so much that they choose to celebrate special occasions, including birthdays, with us.

Respite can also be a supportive transition step between living with family and moving into a home of your own, while giving families and carers time to rest and recharge.

What is Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)? 🏡

SDA refers to the accessible home itself, while Supported Independent Living (SIL) is the support a person receives with daily tasks to live as independently as possible.
A person may receive funding for SDA, SIL or both, depending on their individual needs and NDIS plan.

For more than 60 years, George and Valma shared a life in Geelong. When Valma lived with dementia, George cared for her. They continued to enjoy the moments that mattered to them, including early morning walks along the beach in Queenscliff.

After Valma passed away, their daughter Penelope reached out to genU to help George access support of his own. Today, genU’s Support at Home services help him continue living in the home he built and loves.

Not everyone has their future figured out. That's exactly why Future U exists.💡


This week, young people from across our community joined us for Future U, a free Youth Open Day packed with fun, hands-on activities and opportunities to explore what the future could look like.


From barista workshops, cupcake decorating, art sessions and gaming, to creating your own smoothie by riding a bike (no electricity required! 🚲🥤), there was something for everyone to get involved in.


But the best part? The conversations.


Alongside all the fun, young people had the chance to connect with friendly experts, learn about training and employment opportunities, get tips on writing a resume, preparing for a job interview and discover supports that can help them achieve their goals.


A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day such a great success. We loved seeing so many young people trying new things, making connections and exploring what's possible.

Today, on International Day of Older Persons, we’re celebrating the incredible contributions, experiences and stories of older Australians.

At genU, we marked the occasion with special morning teas at our Retirement Village; Barwarre Gardens and St Laurence Park, where members of our Senior Leadership Team rolled up their sleeves to serve residents and spend time connecting with the communities that make these villages so vibrant.

The day was a wonderful reminder of the importance of creating places where people feel valued, connected and supported to live life their way. Through our range of Senior services, we’re proud to help older people in our community maintain their independence and sense of belonging.
