Many of you would know we deliver a lot of training across Australia and overseas on safe handling and management of aggressive dogs. Alongside this, we work closely with local and state governments to provide advice on policies, practices and legislation which provide a regulatory framework for dog ownership. Or at least we try. DFA feels strongly that not enough education and awareness is available to prospective dog owners on how to select, manage and fulfil the right dog for their lifestyle. Sometimes the consequences of not getting it right can be nuisance dogs and ongoing behavioural problems, but on other occasions the consequences can be far more devastating.

In recent weeks we have been working with Pink for Leasy , in particular Naomi, Melinda and Ben. The story behind Pink for Leasy is a tragic one about the death of Annalyse Blyton after a dog attack in NSW in September 2025. Leasy was a daughter, step-daughter, granddaughter, sister and friend to many who loved her dearly.

Pink for Leasy have found strength in trying to understand how we as a community can do dog ownership so much better. What is most impressive about their journey is the way they put facts before emotions, research before repeating hearsay and above all take an approach of sensibility and sensitivity in every step they take as they navigate the complexities around issues such as unregulated breeding practices, breed traits, education, fulfilment and training. Pink for Leasy are seeking knowledge from many people within the industry, we are just one source of information for them, but we are incredibly grateful they have sought our assistance through parts of this journey, as we feel incredibly passionate about the need to raise awareness of these issues.

Today we had the privilege of spending the morning with Dog Force Australia.

We want to sincerely thank the team, especially Dave Wright & Abby Karkella, for welcoming us into your world and allowing us to see firsthand the incredible work you do, not only within local communities but across Australia and the world 🌎

Your generosity, professionalism and willingness to share your knowledge has been invaluable. Through our conversations, demonstrations and discussions, you have helped us gain a much deeper understanding of responsible dog ownership, canine behaviour, genetics, training and the complexities that exist within this space 🐾👣

On a personal level, your guidance has also helped us navigate our own journey following the loss of our beautiful Annalyse. While nothing can change what happened, every opportunity to learn brings us one step closer to understanding how we can work towards preventing future tragedies 🫶

One thing became abundantly clear today: there are no simple solutions 🤷‍♂️Dog ownership is complex, and meaningful prevention requires education, responsible breeding, responsible ownership, appropriate containment, enforcement and evidence-based policy working together 🤝

As our understanding continues to grow, so does our belief that we must address the overbreeding of certain high-risk breeds, particularly bull breeds, while also ensuring prospective owners have access to education about the inherited traits, instincts, drives and needs of the breed they choose 🐕

At Pink for Leasy, we will continue sharing what we learn with our community and continue advocating to policymakers for practical, evidence-based reforms that place prevention at the centre of responsible dog ownership.

DFA recently had the pleasure of providing aggressive dog management training to a number of delegates from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Public Health Program in Cairns, as part of the Animal Management Conference 2026.

It was a fantastic opportunity to learn as much as we were able to teach, as we gained insights into the challenges and rewards of carrying out this important role in the remote regions of Far North Queensland. The participants were extremely engaged throughout the day and demonstrated a wealth of knowledge and experience in this field which only comes from real world practices.
