Red Tag Fly Fishers Club

Last Saturday Red Tag hosted a tour at Aussie Angler for beginners to the sport in order to break down those barriers and make what can sometimes be daunting a lot more approachable!

Thanks to Rick and Jo for hosting, everyone learnt a tonne about all the different gear to use and what to expect at a fly fishing shop.

For anyone who couldn’t make it, Jo shared some sage advice that will help everyone fly fishing: There’s no must do this, must do that. It’s not a prescriptive sport. The most important thing is that we enjoy ourselves.

It was great having the Australian Casting Federation come to our monthly club meeting to tell us all about fly casting competitions! I think we now have some budding competition casters on our hands!

It's the spooky season, but there's nothing scary about the activities we've got planned this month! All are welcome, we can't wait to see you there!

Wed 7 - Club Night chat - this month we'll be talking about competition fly fishing
Sat 10 - Shop tour for newbies - we know fly fishing shops can be overwhelming, so we'll tackle it together
Wed 14 - Beginner Fly Tying - learn the art of fly tying with a beginner design, come along for a cozy crafty evening
16-18 - Weekend Club Trip to Millbrook Lakes
Wed 28 - Experienced Fly Tying - for people with a bit more tools in their belt, we tend to look more deeply at variations and adaptions of flies

And as usual, every Saturday Morning - rain, hail or shine, we'll be out casting from 9-11

We had a fantastic time at the Experienced Fly Tying night. Peter walked us through how to tie the Nuclear ☢️ 🐔

This fly is a highly visible fly, popular for species like snapper and salmon.

Our training partners Cohealth had another inspiring session with Red Tag Fly Fishers Club club in Melbourne as they delivered the second education session for the Rainbow Ready Program. This is an extended version of The Game, with Allyship and Bystander interventions, designed to give clubs confidence in stepping in and showing support for the LGBTIQA+ community in their club. The session really hit the spot for Red Tag members, with so much great feedback coming in. Huge thanks to Red Tag and their members for coming to this work with open minds and so much enthusiasm - what incredible role models you're becoming!
