🏷️ What do you think of our new badges?

These fabulous badges were made by the team at Lasercraft Australia Ltd, a National Disability Enterprise based in West Gosford that provides long-term supported employment to people living with disability. It's a wonderful local business doing great work, and a fitting choice for a Rotary club.

You'll also notice something different: gone are the days of listing professions on our badges. Rotary is now open to everyone who wants to make a difference, whatever their occupation, and our new badges reflect that.

πŸ“Έ Pictured is Mitchell Gordon's badge. A Charter Member of our club, Mitch currently serves as our Membership Director and Homelessness Program Chair.

What do you reckon β€” love the new look? πŸ‘‡

🌟 District Governor Michele Ellery

Meet Michele Ellery, District Governor of Rotary District 9685 for 2025–2027 and a proud member of the Rotary Club of Lower Blue Mountains.

A Mental Health facilitator with a nursing background, Michele founded a multi-award-winning charity supporting men, women and children affected by violence and abuse. Recognising the long waiting times for services in Western Sydney, she ensured people were seen within seven days and provided free counselling and court support to reduce barriers to access.

Michele's Rotary journey began in 2018 with the Penrith Rotary Club, where she served as Secretary and in Public Relations. She later transferred to the Rotary Club of Lower Blue Mountains, taking on the roles of President (2020–21), Bulletin Editor, Admin Director and Public Image Chair β€” contributions recognised with a Paul Harris Fellowship in 2021.

She has also served as ROMAC Communications Coordinator, a District Public Image team member, a District Domestic and Family Violence Committee member, and a much-loved Winter RYPEN camp mum. Three years as District 9685 Assistant Governor for the Blue Mountains and AG Convenor gave her deep insight into the clubs and members she now supports as District Governor, and she's facilitated with the Rotary Leadership Institute for the past five years.

Mental health remains a particular passion: in the past 12 months alone, Michele has delivered more than 35 Mental Health First Aid courses to Rotarians and community members. She previously served as District 9685 Learning and Development Chair (2024–25) and a Rotary Community Leader under the Regionalisation Pilot, before stepping into the role of District Governor.

🌟 Another Thursday, Another Great Night at Rotary Brisbane Water!

Our guest speaker may have had to postpone, but that didn't stop tonight from being one to remember! Here's what we got up to:

πŸ”΅ Trivia Night is coming! Our International Services Director Steven Gagau got us all excited about our upcoming PNG Trivia Night on Friday 27 June at Everglades Country Club. Tickets available at the door β€” you won't want to miss it!

πŸ”΅ A huge welcome to our new Secretary! We're thrilled to announce that Brian Plain (pictured with wife Jan and President Cherie Simpson) has generously offered to step into the Secretary role for 2026–27. Brian takes over from our fantastic Public Image Director, Di Bartok, who has done a brilliant job in the role. Thank you, Di! πŸ‘

πŸ”΅ New faces β€” and what a trio! We were absolutely delighted to welcome not one, not two, but three prospective members tonight β€” Jae, Steve, and Mary. It was wonderful to have you with us, and we hope to see you back very soon! 😊

πŸ”΅ Wise words from our VP! Vice President Jayne Mote delivered a wonderful and insightful talk on the remarkable difference Rotary makes around the world.

And in true Rotary Brisbane Water style, the night wrapped up with a cheeky gag from the one and only Denis Simpson β€” we'll leave that one to your imagination! πŸ˜‚

A great night all round. See you next time! πŸ’™

πŸŽ–οΈ Tonight's Guest Speaker – Dode Simpson!

We're delighted to welcome Dode Simpson to our meeting tonight β€” long-serving President of the combined Woy Woy/Ettalong/Hardys Bay RSL Sub-Branch and a truly dedicated servant of our veteran community.

Dode is one of the key organisers behind the Anzac Day services at Woy Woy and Ettalong, and she gives generously of her time in local schools β€” helping younger generations understand and appreciate the traditions of those who served. She also brings warmth and companionship to older veterans through a weekly coffee club and regular nursing home visits.

We're honoured to have her join us this evening, and we're looking forward to hearing her stories about upholding tradition, the importance of remembering war service, and why Anzac Day and Remembrance Day remain as relevant as ever. 🌺

🌟 Rotary Brisbane Water β€” Board Meeting Update 🌟

Our board of directors came together via Zoom tonight β€” President Cherie Simpson, Vice President Jayne Mote, Treasurer Mark Simpson, International Director Steven Gagau, Membership Director Mitchell Gordon, and Public Image Director Di Bartok. We missed Rotary Foundation Director Sue O'Neill OAM, who is overseas on humanitarian work β€” exactly the kind of thing that makes us proud to call her one of our own! 🌏

Here's what's been happening:

🎨 The posters are at the printers! Our Australiana-themed cocktail party posters will be appearing across the Peninsula very soon β€” so keep an eye out. It's going to be a fantastic night!

🀝 Stepping up for our community β€” in response to the ongoing cost of living pressures, the club is making substantial donations to Mary Mac's Place, Safetylink Alliance, and Food Pantry. We're also proud to be supporting Lasercraft, a wonderful local disability services and support organisation.

🌱 Membership is growing! Mitchell Gordon has received several enquiries recently, and we're looking forward to welcoming three potential new members to our meeting tomorrow night. Exciting times ahead!

As we prepare to celebrate seven years of community service, the future is looking very bright indeed. Our heartfelt thanks go to everyone who supports and encourages us along the way β€” it means the world. πŸ’›

Yesterday, Rotary Brisbane Water, in conjunction with Central Coast Antiques & Collectables, donated linen and clothing to Coast Shelter.

The donation was coordinated by our newly appointed Homelessness Chair, Mitchell Gordon, and reflects our commitment to supporting those experiencing hardship in our local community.

We are pleased to support the increasingly vital work of Coast Shelter and thank everyone involved in making this donation possible. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most.

β˜• What a weekend at the Lions Tea Cosie Exhibition!

Rotary Brisbane Water's Vice President Jayne Mote had the honour of serving as one of two judges β€” and what a competition it was!

The top prize went to a stunning King Charles tea cosie, crafted by a remarkably talented lady who is 101 years young. πŸ‘‘

A wonderful celebration of creativity, community spirit, and the enduring art of the tea cosie!
