Plant of the Week: Alocasia brisbanensis
This week’s Plant of the Week is the bold and iconic Alocasia brisbanensis, commonly known as Native Cunjevoi. A striking Australian rainforest plant that brings dramatic foliage and habitat value to shaded gardens.
Why we love it
• Large, glossy arrow-shaped leaves that create instant tropical impact
• Produces bright red berries that attract birds
• A classic rainforest understorey plant, perfect for lush plantings
• Provides shelter and microhabitat for insects and small wildlife
Realistic height 1m, maximum height 2.5m
Growing notes
• Prefers part shade to full shade, protected from harsh sun
• Thrives in moist, well-drained, organic-rich soils
• Benefits from mulching and regular watering
• Very hardy in the right conditions and forms impressive clumps over time
Great as an indoor pland and perfect for rainforest gardens, shaded courtyards, understorey planting, wildlife gardens, and creating bold, tropical native landscapes.
NB : whilst great for reveg for native frogs etc all parts of the plant are toxic

Time: 10am till 12 Pm
Where: Kumbartcho - Eatons Hill
