Can LGBTQIA+ people become Foster Carers?

Yes.

People from the LGBTQIA+ community are absolutely eligible to become foster carers.

Sexual orientation, gender identity, or relationship structure does not determine whether you can foster. What matters most is your ability to provide a safe, stable, and loving home for a child or young person in need.

At Allambi Care, we welcome carers from diverse backgrounds because every child deserves to feel safe, respected, and accepted.

Our Cultural Team are a huge part of driving positive change for the young people and families we support. It is about offering a safe place where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can experience respect, dignity, and the freedom to connect with their culture and country. We couldn’t be more proud of the work this team does everyday.

Over the past 11 years, the Allambi Care Diploma of Community Services Pathway, delivered in partnership with Bradford Institute of Advanced Education (RTO No. 45241) has quietly supported many dedicated staff to grow their skills and confidence in the work they do every day.

Since launching in 2015, the Diploma pathway has been designed to sit alongside frontline practice - helping staff connect learning directly to their roles while continuing to support the people in their care.

This month, we acknowledge:
✨ 36 staff completing the Diploma
📚 18 staff currently enrolled
👥 49 staff who attended enrolment sessions this week

Behind each number is a staff member making the commitment to learn while continuing their important day-to-day work. Over the years, we’ve seen many participants progress into leadership roles or continue into further study pathways with Allambi Care. Just as importantly, many speak about growing in confidence, strengthening their practice, and seeing their work through a new lens.

💬 Reflections from participants include:
“I look at the work I do from a different perspective and lens.”
“I can’t wait to take this back to the care home I work with and implement it.”
“I never believed I could achieve a qualification like this.”
“The content is delivered in an interesting, relatable, enjoyable, and engaging manner.”
“The facilitators make the content relatable and easy to understand through clear and effective delivery.”

We’re proud to support staff who choose to invest in their learning while continuing to support others every day.

‘All In’ - this year’s Reconciliation Week theme is a call to action for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation, not just during this week, but in everyday actions, listening, and relationships.

We came together with community, the Allambi team and our young people to listen, learn and reflect. A smoking ceremony and warm Welcome to Country by Randall from Gabinya Miyaya grounded the morning for what followed. Bindi Flook - Aboriginal Community Development Officer from Lake Macquarie City Council shared a personal reflection of what ‘All In’ meant to her, and the importance of walking together, listening and understanding. A panel discussion followed, hosted by Cody Webb, creating space for conversation, reflection, and shared learning.

We then joined the Lake Macquarie community for the Stride for Reconciliation walk at Warners Bay. This was a powerful gathering shared with local schools, community groups and other organisations.

Our Victoria team walked with Sean from Nairm Maan Djamabana. Young people and staff came together to learn from Sean, interact with cultural artefacts, explore the Bay trail, learn about bush tucker, and finished off the day with leaf decoration.

Across both gatherings, the focus remained the same - listening more than speaking, learning from each other, and walking alongside community with respect and care.

Last week we had the pleasure of hosting PPIS Singapore, a Muslim women-led not-for-profit organisation dedicated to community services that support women, children, and families to thrive across Singapore.

Allambi Care and TACT Training have collaborated with PPIS, sharing practice principles in Trauma-Informed Care and the Three Pillars of Transforming Care framework. As a multi-service organisation, PPIS brought a strong interest in exploring agency approaches to Trauma-Informed Care, with particular focus on the Three Pillars model, a training program delivered across Australia and internationally through TACT. Allambi Care teams shared their experience, knowledge, and passion with our visitors over the past few days. We also had the opportunity to learn from PPIS about their comprehensive service system and were impressed by the depth of their expertise, as well as their strong commitment to community wellbeing.

We look forward to continuing this relationship and furthering our shared commitment to learning, collaboration, and improved outcomes for the communities we serve.
