π VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: YUKARI MELLISH π
Yukari noticed her son was growing up surrounded by English. He was thriving, but something was missing. His own language. His own culture. His own roots.
So she did what community builders do. She started something.
Nearly two years ago, Yukari began volunteering with our Playing Around the World playgroup on the Central Coast, showing up every week with craft, music, games, and stories, making sure every child walks in ready to play and every mum has a moment to breathe, connect, and share what it really feels like to raise a family in a new country.
Then she went further. She founded our Japanese Family Group, a space where children grow up knowing where they come from, even as they find their place here.
"It's important that children learn their culture and language from an early age," she says.
This is what volunteering at Mosaic looks like. Yukari, thank you for giving our children roots and wings at the same time. π
And that's our five.
Libby. Kerrie. Liliana. Patricia. Yukari. Five volunteers across the Hunter, Central Coast, and New England. Different programs, different rhythms, the same quiet conviction, that showing up for someone else is worth doing, and worth doing again next week.
To them, and to every volunteer at Mosaic, thank you.
