🍎🍯 High Holy Days for the whole family!

Join us for joyful, hands-on experiences that bring the season to life through music, creativity, stories and shared ritual.

On Rosh HaShanah, we’ll bake mini honey cakes, enjoy music and movement with Beth from BOPS Music, get creative with Elly from Pillar & Stone, and welcome the New Year together with the sound of the shofar.

Then on Yom Kippur, families can explore apology, forgiveness and new beginnings through story, song and meaningful shared experiences.

Ancient ritual. Contemporary practice. Prayer, music, breath and silence.

S’lichot is one of the quiet thresholds of the Jewish year. A moment to turn inward as we begin the journey towards Rosh HaShanah and the High Holy Days.

This year, we’re creating an evening with a simple invitation: stop, breathe and reset.

We’ll begin with Havdalah and the ancient prayers and melodies of S’lichot, share supper together, and then move beyond words into a Soul Sound Workshop: a guided Breath Circle with Beata Heymann, followed by an immersive sound healing experience with Rodney (Poj) Pollak.

You don’t need to know the prayers. You don’t need to have grown up with the tradition. Just come as you are, and make some space to consider where you’ve been, where you are, and how you want to enter the year ahead.

We’re delighted to share that Shtiebel has been welcomed as the newest member of the Jewish Community Council of Victoria (JCCV), representing our growing community and a model of Jewish life built around openness, belonging and meeting people where they are.

For us, joining the JCCV is about more than representation. It’s about collaboration: bringing Shtiebel’s voice to the communal table, learning from others, building new partnerships, and playing our part in shaping a strong and vibrant Jewish future for Victoria.

We’re proud of what we’re building, grateful to everyone who has helped us get here, and excited about what comes next.

A strong Jewish future needs both enduring institutions and new models of community. And we’re thrilled to have a seat at the table.

Chodesh Tov. Welcome to Elul.

As the sun began to set this evening, ushering in the Hebrew month of Elul, Rabbi Gersh had the wonderful opportunity to introduce three of our regional (remote) B’nei Mitzvah students to the idea of teshuvah, return, reflection and renewal, and to the sound of the shofar.

Elul invites each of us into a cheshbon hanefesh, an accounting of the soul: an opportunity, both personally and communally, to reflect on who we have been, who we are, and who we might yet become as we journey towards the High Holy Days.

The shofar is our spiritual alarm clock. May its call awaken something within each of us and remind us that the work of beginning again starts now.

Join us for Shabbat songs, storytime and delicious soup as we explore the classic folk tale Stone Soup — a story about generosity, sharing what we have, and how working together can create something wonderful for everyone.

Designed for young children and their families, it’s a lovely way to connect, share a story, and celebrate Jewish Book Week with music, food and community.

Rosh Chodesh Elul is this Thursday, which means Rosh Hashanah is now just a little over four weeks away.

Preparations are well underway for our second year at Malvern Town Hall, and thanks to our friends at Gary Peer & Associates, you may have already spotted our High Holy Day boards popping up around town!

Now is the time to make your plans to join us.
