Ember 🩷 we are so sad this little lady and 2 of her siblings are still looking for forever homes. Despite their sweet personalities the feedback is they are not young enough anymore so are rejected continuously 😢 please help us find loving forever homes by sharing them! Ember would do really well in a calmer home 💕https://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/1166825

⚠️ Feline Panleukopenia (Feline Parvovirus) – Community Advisory

Feline Panleukopenia is a highly contagious and often fatal virus that affects cats, particularly kittens. It attacks the intestines and immune system, leading to severe illness.

What to watch for:
Symptoms usually appear within 3–10 days after exposure and may include:
• Severe vomiting and diarrhea (sometimes bloody)
• Extreme tiredness or weakness
• Fever (early), or low body temperature in serious cases
• Loss of appetite
• Dehydration (sunken eyes, dry skin)
• Abdominal discomfort (hunched posture)
• Poor coat condition

Who is most at risk:
Kittens, especially between 3–5 months old, are most vulnerable and can deteriorate very quickly.

How it spreads:
This virus is extremely tough and spreads easily through:
• Contact with infected cats or their bodily fluids
• Contaminated bedding, bowls, cages, and surfaces
• Clothing, shoes, and hands

The virus can survive in the environment for up to 12 months, making prevention and hygiene very important.

Local alert:
Recent cases have been identified in:
• Glenquarie
• Macquarie Fields
• Hoxton Park
• Liverpool

What you should do:
Pet owners and colony feeders are encouraged to:
• Monitor cats closely for symptoms
• Seek veterinary care immediately if signs appear
• Maintain strict hygiene and disinfect regularly
• Ensure vaccinations are up to date where possible

Staying aware and acting quickly can help protect your cats and the wider community
