We are seeking a diverse range of actors from all backgrounds, identities, and skill levels for the following projects:

1. Stages of Empathy
The Project: A powerful, established forum theatre play that has already successfully toured four Australian states and will continue its national tour in the second half of 2026.
Who We Need: This play was written by individuals who identify as neurodivergent, having an intellectual disability, or identifying as non-binary/trans. To maintain the authenticity and integrity of the work, we are strictly casting actors who also identify within these communities.

2. Transport Transformed
The Project: An exciting new forum theatre play centred on transit equity and accessibility. This work will be actively devised, written, and performed by the ensemble.
Who We Need: We are looking for a collaborative mix of performers who identify as able-bodied, as well as those with lived experience of mobility issues, sensory issues, or who are sight or hearing impaired.

3. Additional Projects in Development
The Projects: Rebus has several new works currently brewing for late 2026 and 2027.
Who We Need: Culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) actors, Torres Strait Islander actor/dancers, and both emerging and established professional performers looking to expand their practice in socially engaged theatre.

Rebus is thrilled to partner with Merrigong Theatre Company’s The Strangeways Ensemble and The Q to bring The Strangeways Cabaret to our region!

We are seeking local neuro-diverse artists and performers with a disability for a weekend intensive workshop to develop a short cabaret act from 20–21 June at the Ralph Wilson Theatre at Gorman Arts Centre. Our mentors will help you develop your song, stand-up, or character act in an affirming environment.

One to two acts from this workshop will be selected to perform live on stage with The Strangeways Ensemble as part of The Strangeways Cabaret lineup at The Q on Saturday, 4 July!

Since 2021, the Cabaret has been an annual event on the Merrigong calendar but this year, The Strangeways Ensemble are spreading the love and taking it on the road to regional venues and including local artists as special guests in the lineup. With a live cabaret band and whole lot of heart, The Strangeways Cabaret promises unique takes on one of the most explored human emotions – love.

StageCraft Job Ready 2026 is here!

Do you have a passion for live production but want more hands-on experience to turn that passion into a career?

Rebus Theatre and The Mill Theatre are thrilled to announce the next iteration of StageCraft Job Ready. Building on the success of our 2025 pilot, this 2026 program is a bespoke training course designed to bridge the skills gap in Canberra’s live events industry.

We are looking for individuals (17+) who want to consolidate their skills in lighting, sound, stage management, and technical design. Whether you’re a Cert III graduate, a school tech whiz, or a community theatre volunteer, this program is designed to meet you where you are.

What’s involved?
8 Bespoke Sessions: Across July and August, tailored specifically to the skills the cohort wants to learn (from QLab to lighting consoles).
Mentored Experience: Work on live events at venues with professional guidance.
Pathway to Employment: Our goal is to make you confident and "job-ready" for paid roles in the local industry

Fill out the EOI so we can create the course just for you: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdO19vWuJyHxBPzXbmAAF55a22ffuKIDGQhNjS7Q8IHm0b3aQ/viewform

Which way next?

After two intensive weeks at the Tanks Arts Centre, the creative development for Tent City: A New Face is officially complete!

With the generous support of Cairns Regional Council and the QLD Government, the groundwork for our national tour is laid. We are ready to take these stories across the country, shifting the narrative on housing justice from regional towns to the steps of Parliament House.

A massive thank you to our incredible performers for their courage, artistry, and heart: Joe, Pia, Kollene, Eugene, Phoenix, Jasmen, and Faith.

We couldn’t do this work without our partners: Mission Australia, The Salvation Army, and YouthLink.

The script is refined, the vision is clear, and the momentum is building. National tour - here we come! Sign up to the Rebus newsletter for news on the tour: https://mailchi.mp/5c1393fdfcf6/sign-up-to-newsletter-2026
