Pedal Power ACT

Pedal Power ACT As Canberra's largest cycling organisation, Pedal Power promotes cycling for the Canberra community. Authorised by I. Ross, Pedal Power ACT, Canberra

Pedal Power ACT represents the interests of people who ride bikes in the ACT, and the many more who would ride if it were easier and safer to do so. Pedal Power ACT strives to protect and promote the importance of bike-riding to the ACT community. Pedal Power ACT works collaboratively with its members, stakeholders, the community and government to achieve this goal. More people riding bikes in the

ACT would improve the health of our population, help the environment by reducing pollution and ease pressure on congested traffic networks. Making the ACT a better place to ride a bike will bring financial reward to the local economy through cycle tourism opportunities, and increasing custom for local businesses. Pedal Power ACT wants more Canberrans riding bikes, more often, for a better community.

Pedal Power ACT supports Bicycle Queensland's advocacy for practical, evidence-based e-mobility regulation.

We all want safer streets and pathways. However, regulation should focus on dangerous and non-compliant devices rather than creating unnecessary barriers for people riding safe, legal e-bikes.

We share Bicycle Queensland's concern that some aspects of the proposed legislation may adversely affect compliant e-bike riders while doing little to address the illegal e-motorcycles that are at the heart of many community concerns.

Our submission to the Queensland Government outlines our concerns and recommendations.

We stand with Bicycle Queensland in seeking better outcomes for riders and the broader community.

From Tomorrow (Wednesday 3 June), Barrine Drive and the section of the Lake Burley Griffin loop path alongside it will close for major roadworks for the next couple of months.

This will affect riders:
โ€ข travelling around the north side of the lake under Commonwealth Avenue Bridge
โ€ข heading between Commonwealth Avenue Bridge and Jacobโ€™s Bridge (the footbridge over Parkes Way to Marcus Clarke Street)

The best detour is to follow the shoreline path around and under the north side of Commonwealth Avenue Bridge. Visibility is a little tighter just west of the bridge, so please slow down and take care through this section.

A temporary tarmac path through the middle of the park upgrades remains open and provides the shortest connection between the waterfront path and the path to Jacobโ€™s Bridge.

๐ŸŽฅ Weโ€™ve also filmed the full detour route here:

Today we ride on Ngunnawal Country and acknowledge the resilience, histories, and cultures of First Nations peoples. Reconciliation is not just reflection, but an ongoing commitment to listening, learning, and recognising the enduring connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to Country, while working together toward a more respectful and inclusive future for all communities.

Canberra riders donโ€™t melt in the rain! ๐Ÿšฒ๐ŸŒง๏ธ
Even with yesterdayโ€™s gloomy weather, the bike racks outside the ACT Government building in Dickson were completely full.

A great reminder that Canberrans ride in all conditions when cycling is a practical way to get around.
