Pedal Power ACT

Pedal Power ACT Pedal Power ACT is Canberraโ€™s peak cycling organisation and a voice for people who ride bikes. Authorised by I. Ross, Pedal Power ACT, Canberra

We work to make the ACT a safer, more connected and more accessible place to ride for everyone. Pedal Power ACT represents the interests of people who ride bikes in the ACT, and the many more who would ride if it were easier and safer to do so. Pedal Power ACT strives to protect and promote the importance of bike-riding to the ACT community. Pedal Power ACT works collaboratively with its members,

stakeholders, the community and government to achieve this goal. More people riding bikes in the ACT would improve the health of our population, help the environment by reducing pollution and ease pressure on congested traffic networks. Making the ACT a better place to ride a bike will bring financial reward to the local economy through cycle tourism opportunities, and increasing custom for local businesses. Pedal Power ACT wants more Canberrans riding bikes, more often, for a better community.

This EOFY, give a Canberran the chance to ride! ๐Ÿ’›

Not everyone has the same opportunity to get on a bike. For some, the cost of a bike or cycling program can be a barrier. For others, it can be access to the right equipment or support.

That's why Pedal Power runs programs like:
๐Ÿ”ง Bike Library โ€“ providing free bike loans to anyone in the community who needs a bike
๐Ÿšฒ Pedal It Forward โ€“ helping children, adults and families access cycling programs they might otherwise miss out on.
๐Ÿšด Fitability โ€“ creating opportunities for people with disability to enjoy all the benefits of cycling through our tandem program.

Every donation helps open the door for someone to learn, ride, connect with their community and experience the simple joy of being on a bike.

To everyone who has already donated, thank you. Your support is helping make cycling more accessible, inclusive and welcoming for people across Canberra.

If you're able to give before June 30, we'd be incredibly grateful for your support.

World Cup host cities ranked by bike access? Now we're talking.

As the 2026 World Cup continues, cycling publication Momentum Magazine has ranked all 16 tournament stadiums based on how easy they are to reach by bike.

The results show that cities with safe, connected cycling networks make it easier for thousands of people to get to major events without adding to traffic congestion. Vancouver, Toronto and Seattle topped the rankings thanks to their strong cycling infrastructure and connections to public transport.

It's a reminder that good cycling infrastructure isn't just about the daily commute. It helps people get to work, school, shops, community events and even some of the world's biggest sporting events.

Imagine being able to ride safely to a World Cup match, lock up your bike and head straight into the stadium.

Is Wagga Wagga overtaking Canberra as Australia's cycling capital?

That's the bold claim being made by some riders in Wagga following the opening of the new Forest Hill cycling link, which connects residents to jobs, schools, cafes and recreation via a growing network of safe cycling infrastructure.

While Canberra still leads the country with one of Australia's most extensive cycling networks, Wagga's success highlights an important lesson: when governments invest in connected, safe and direct cycling routes, people ride.

The question isn't whether Wagga has overtaken Canberra yet. It's whether Canberra is doing enough to stay ahead.

What do you think? Has Canberra earned its cycling capital title, or do we need to be moving faster on missing links across the network?

Canberra has long been regarded as one of Australia's best cities for cycling, with an extensive network of bike pathsโ€ฆ

The Bike Library is seeking 1โ€“2 new Volunteer Coordinators to help support one of Pedal Power's most valued community programs.

Based at Margaret Hendry School in Taylor, the Bike Library provides free bike loans to people who need them most. Donated bikes are refurbished by volunteers and shared with community members, helping improve access to affordable transport, recreation and cycling opportunities while keeping bikes out of landfill.

We're looking for friendly, organised people who enjoy helping others and working as part of a team. Coordinators assist with bike loans, volunteer records and keeping Bike Library sessions running smoothly.

Brisbane Airport has shown what it looks like when active travel is taken seriously.

Its newly approved 2026 Master Plan includes a separated terminal bikeway, secure bike parking, end-of-trip facilities, active transport counters and new cycling connections into the airport precinct.

Canberra should be paying attention.

Canberra Airport is one of the ACT's largest employment centres and a major destination for business, tourism and freight. Hundreds of people travel to and from the airport every day, yet cycling access remains an afterthought. While Canberra has an extensive path network, the final connections into the airport precinct are indirect, uncomfortable and in some places simply missing.

If we are serious about reducing congestion, improving transport choice and making cycling a practical option for more people, the airport needs to be part of the conversation.

Secure bike parking, end-of-trip facilities for staff, clear wayfinding and safe, direct cycling connections to the terminal aren't radical ideas. They're the sort of infrastructure that should be expected at a major transport hub.

Brisbane Airport's plan demonstrates what can be achieved when cycling is considered from the outset. We'd love to see Canberra Airport take a similar approach and work with the government and the community to make riding to the airport a realistic option for more people.

Recently releasing a 20-year master plan, Brisbane Airport say active transport is a critical element of their long-term vision.
