💜 What an amazing time we had at Box Hill Institute celebrating Wear It Purple Day!
The energy was buzzing as we came together for a vibrant and joyful community event in recognition of Wear It Purple Day.
The team from FAN joined forces with Access Health and Community, Youth Connexions, and The Orange Door to create a welcoming, inclusive and fun space for young people and the wider community.
There was badge making, a photobooth, WIP merch, and plenty of joyful energy throughout the morning.
Wear It Purple Day serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusion, visibility and standing together against discrimination, and it was wonderful to see the community come together in such a positive way.

💜 What a morning! A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at FAN for our Wear It Purple Day Morning Tea.
There was plenty of lively chatter, lots of laughs, cupcakes, sandwiches, photos and some really meaningful conversations about what Colours of Courage means for the q***r young people we support.
A special thank you to Ripley and Owen from the FAN team for sharing their insights and reminding us why Wear It Purple Day matters — because every young person deserves to feel safe, supported, seen and celebrated for who they are.

We were delighted to welcome Minister Steve Dimopoulos MP , Minister for Equality, and Minister Paul Hamer MP - State Member for Box Hill to FAN for a great discussion about our work supporting young people across the community.
It was Minister Dimopoulos’ first visit to FAN in his new role as Equality Minister, giving us the opportunity to showcase our programs and our dedicated support for LGBTIQA+ young people.
We also discussed the significant impact of the loss of funding for the Eastern Diversity Group (EDG), which provided an important space for connection, support and community for many years.
It was a positive and productive conversation, and we appreciated the Ministers taking the time to hear about FAN’s achievements, our work and the challenges facing the young people and communities we support.

EVERY YOUNG PERSON DESERVES TO BE SEEN AND COUNTED.

On Tuesday 11 August, Australia will complete the 2026 Census. For young people experiencing homelessness, particularly those who are couch surfing, being counted matters.

The Census provides Australia's only national estimate of homelessness, helping inform funding and planning for the services young people rely on. If you work with young people, schools or community organisations, please help share this information ahead of Census night. Every person counted helps build a clearer picture of youth homelessness and the support our communities need.

This Homelessness Week, our office windows have become a platform for the voices of young people we've supported who have experienced homelessness.

Their stories speak to the uncertainty, resilience, hope and challenges of finding a safe place to call home. They remind us that homelessness can happen to anyone, and that every young person deserves safety, stability and the opportunity to thrive.

Thank you to the young people who generously shared their stories to help challenge perceptions, build understanding and inspire change.

In 2025, 14,261 young Victorians aged 15–24 sought longer-term housing assistance through specialist homelessness services.

But this Homelessness Week, we're asking you to look beyond the statistics.
Because behind every number is a young person with dreams, fears, strengths, and a story that deserves to be heard.

Through Voices of Homelessness, we've shared the lived experiences of young people supported by FAN. Their words remind us that youth homelessness isn't just about not having a roof over your head. It's about navigating trauma, family violence, discrimination, financial stress, and the constant search for safety and belonging.
