A heartfelt thank you to our inspiring guest speakers who shared their stories and perspectives at the Zonta Club of Bowen International Women’s Day Morning Tea.

We are so grateful to Lily-ann, Matilda, Elle, Kate, and Barb for their honesty, passion and willingness to share their journeys with our community. Your words truly reflected the spirit of this year’s theme, “Balance the Scales,” and reminded us of the power of leadership, resilience and supporting one another.

🌸 International Women’s Day – Guest Speaker Spotlight 🌸

We are honoured to introduce another powerful voice joining us this Sunday for our International Women’s Day Morning Tea — Barb Hill.

Barb is a community leader, youth advocate, and Mental Wellness Coach based in the Whitsunday region of Queensland. With lived experience at the heart of her work, she brings a deeply authentic and courageous voice to conversations around mental health, su***de prevention, and strengthening community connection.

Speaking into this year’s theme, “Balance the Scales,” Barb offers a thought-provoking perspective — reminding us that true equality includes recognising the silent struggles of our men and boys.

With warmth, honesty, humour and fierce compassion, Barb leaves audiences both challenged and inspired to take meaningful action.

Join us this Sunday, 8 March, as we come together to reflect, learn and help Build a Better World for Women and Girls. 💛

🌸 International Women’s Day – Guest Speaker Spotlight 🌸

We are proud to introduce another inspiring guest speaker for this Sunday’s International Women’s Day Morning Tea — Kate Mee.

Kate is an experienced Health, Safety, Environment & Community leader with a strong passion for empowering people and strengthening communities. Until recently, she served as Health, Safety, Environment & Community Manager at Abbot Point Terminal, where she led complex workplace compliance and risk programs, as well as the APO community support program.

In 2024, Kate travelled to Nepal to volunteer in a women’s empowerment program — an experience that deeply shaped her perspective on resilience, leadership, and the power of women supporting women.

A proud mum of two and a strong advocate for authenticity and growth, Kate is dedicated to creating spaces where women feel seen, valued, and capable of more than they realise.

Join us this Sunday, 8 March, as we celebrate women who are helping to Build a Better World for Women and Girls. 💛

We are excited to introduce another of our inspiring guest speakers for this Sunday’s International Women’s Day Morning Tea — Elle Gordon.

Elle is a Year 12 student and Flinders House Captain at Bowen State High School. She is currently in her second year of a school-based traineeship with Abbot Point Operations, while also studying a Certificate II in Engineering – Production Technology through TAFE Queensland.

After graduating, Elle aspires to become an electrician — proudly representing young women pursuing careers in trades and industry.

Elle’s dedication, leadership and commitment to her goals reflect the confidence and capability of the next generation.

We are pleased to introduce another of our wonderful guest speakers for this Sunday’s International Women’s Day Morning Tea — Lily-Ann Batalibasi, a 2026 Executive Student Council member at Bowen State High School.

Currently in her final year, Lily-Ann is studying Mathematical Methods, General English, Sport and Recreation, Biology, Chemistry and Psychology. After graduating, she aspires to study medicine and specialise in psychiatry, with the goal of supporting mental wellbeing and making a positive impact in people’s lives.

Lily-Ann is passionate about helping others and building strong connections within communities — a true reflection of the next generation of compassionate leaders.

Matilda is a passionate advocate for both the arts and academic community within her school. With dreams of becoming a renowned musical theatre performer — and one day pursuing directing and filmmaking — she is committed to using creativity as a powerful voice for change.

Through her love of the arts, Matilda strives to make a meaningful difference in the world and inspire others to express, lead, and create with confidence.
