Blackstone-Ipswich Cambrian Choirs

Blackstone-Ipswich Cambrian Choirs The Blackstone-Ipswich Cambrian Choir was founded in 1886 and is now reputed to be Queensland's longest continuously-performing choir. and Coro Concorde.

The Blackstone-Ipswich Cambrian Choir was originally established as an adult SATB choir with the express purpose of competing in what was to become the Queensland Eisteddfod. Since these early days, the choir has developed into a more broad-based organisation. It has fostered the development of artistic and musical excellence among the young people of the Ipswich area through the establishement of

additional choirs for young singers. The organisation currently incorporates five choirs: the original Senior Choir, the Cambrian Show Choir, the Cambrian Youth Choir, the Junior Cambrian Choir. The Blackstone-Ipswich Cambrian Choir has been assisted by the Ipswich City Council’s COVID-19 Ipswich Community Operational Support Funding Program. The funding received from this program was reinvested into local Ipswich businesses and suppliers.

Ipswich Creators Summit | 2026

Our Senior Choir was absolutely stoked to again work with Tom Thum and Paulina to perform at the 2026 Ipswich Creators Summit.

After a very well received performance at the Hipswich celebration in 2025, the choir was invited to reprise this performance with Tom and Paulina, shining a light on the talent that Ipswich has to offer.

Please enjoy this behind the scenes clip of bringing it all together!

🎶 131st Queensland Eisteddfod – What a Celebration! 🎶

We had an absolute blast this weekend at the 131st Queensland Eisteddfod, and we could not be prouder of our singers. Each performance reflected months of dedication, teamwork and a deep love of choral music.

A heartfelt thank you goes to our incredible conductors Michelle French, and David Webster and accompanist, Bronwyn French whose musical leadership, patience and artistry continue to inspire excellence and confidence in our choristers.

The Queensland Eisteddfod remains a cherished opportunity to connect with the wider choral community, celebrate musical growth, and honour the long-standing tradition of ensemble singing in our state. We are proud of the way our choir represented the Cambrian spirit on stage.
Well done to everyone involved—we look forward to what comes next! 💙🎼

Road to Rockhampton | The Last Chapter ✈️🚙

From Ipswich to Rockhampton, the journey has been just as memorable as the music. 🩵

Our Youth Choir kicked things off late‑night style — boarding the bus at 11pm, full of excitement, energy and a few sleepy smiles.

Meanwhile, members of our Senior Choir and their families took to the skies and the open road, turning the trip north into an adventure of its own, complete with fun stops, shared laughs and plenty of choir spirit along the way.

We’re proud to share that the Youth Choir, small groups and soloists have already achieved some fantastic results, setting the tone for an incredible week of music-making.

Tonight, it’s the Senior Choir’s turn as they take the stage in the Grand Madrigal Contest and Sacred Choral Contest.

No matter how we travelled, we arrived together — ready to sing, represent, and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Road to Rockhampton | Youth Choir 🩵

🎶 Our Youth Choir has been hard at work, preparing exciting repertoire as they get ready for Rockhampton!

We’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who supported our Bunnings BBQs. Thanks to these fundraising efforts, along with some incredibly generous sponsorship, we’re thrilled to be able to cover the full cost of the Youth Choir’s bus to Rockhampton and subsidise their accommodation.

We are so proud to support these talented young artists and to be part of their musical journey. We can’t wait to see (and hear!) their performance at the 131st Queensland Eisteddfod 🎤✨ 🎶🚌

| Road to Rockhampton | Cambrian Show Choir |

This term the Cambrian Show Choir has been working hard on a medley in preparation for the 131st Queensland Eisteddfod. Featuring brass from Andrew Jen, the Show Choir is looking forward to presenting this medley in competition alongside the very talented addition.

The chilling medley features a selection of songs from a hit 2006 musical. The story follows a diverse cast of characters as they face the challenges of a harsh world and the will of The Gods.

The music plays tribute to early 20th century folk, jazz and blues. The foreboding melodies and eerie harmonies help to build tension throughout with empowering choruses and vibrant storytelling.

With the cancellation of Showcase, Show Choir snatched up the opportunity for an extra rehearsal, one of many, working to put together cohesive costumes and a seamless performance. The show choir has been working together tirelessly and look forward to presenting this medley in front of an audience!

Any guesses on what show the medley is from? ⛏️

| Road to Rockhampton: Senior Choir Retreat|

Our Senior Choir’s annual retreat was all about diving deep into the music — note by note, phrase by phrase, together.

Across a full weekend of focused rehearsals, we explored our Eisteddfod repertoire, refined technique, and challenged ourselves to listen, blend, and grow as musicians. With minds full of music and voices stronger than ever, we’re heading into the next stage of our Road to Rockhampton journey feeling confident, connected, and inspired.

It is with regret that we have to announce that due to the impact of weather events on the Ipswich Civic Centre and the lack of time available to put alternative arrangements in place, this Sunday's Cambrian Showcase performance will not be going ahead.

Those who had booked tickets will be contacted by the Civic Centre Box Office regarding refunds.

We are very sorry to not have this opportunity to showcase the work of our choirs to our home audience in the lead-up to the Queenlsand Eisteddfod in Rockhampton, and will endeavour to share more of our preparations with you in the lead-up to Easter.

With the organisation celebrating its 140th anniversary this year, we look forward to the wide range of performances that our five choirs will be presenting throughout the year, and we will be in touch with more information about these.
