We are part of Marine Rescue Queensland, which is the new statewide volunteer marine rescue service.

BREAKDOWN IN THE BAY
Breakdown in the Bay. On Saturday night the call out crew were tasked by QPS to tow a vessel situated 2.6 Nautical miles west of Tangalooma to Colmslie boat ramp up the Brisbane River. A seemingly straight forward task, save for the fact that the occupants of the distressed vessel did not speak English. With the help of a Police interpreter who translated the rescue vessel instructions to the distressed vessel, Bribie 1 successfully attached a tow line in rather sloppy sea conditions and towed the vessel to Colmslie. The assisted vessel occupants were very grateful when after a long slow tow, they finally were able to get off their boat. Thanks to Marine rescue Bribie radio operator Andrew Willmot and Skipper Liz Radajewski and crew Dave Logie, Denise Inggs and Paul Gillmore, it was a long night but interesting night that started at 2100 and finished at 0400 the next day.

Saturday morning 31st October 2026 – a broken down 5.8m Half Cabin required a tow from the Pacific Harbour Canals to the Sandstone Point Marina. White Saturday Crew in Bribie 2: Coxswain Doug Lythgo and crew Denise Inggs, David Dodsworth, and Phil Helgesen completed the task.

30 January 1950 – 15 October 2026
It is with profound sadness that we advise of the passing of our fellow Radio Operator and valued colleague, Wayne Hook, following a long battle with illness. Wayne joined VMR Bribie Island on 1st November 2022 as a Radio Operator and quickly made his mark as an energetic, dedicated and highly professional member of our team. His enthusiasm, commitment and willingness to contribute earned him the respect and friendship of his fellow volunteers. Throughout his illness, Wayne remained determined to return to the radios and the work he enjoyed so much. His desire to be back on duty was a reflection of his dedication to Marine Rescue and the strong connection he felt with his fellow Radio Operators.

Wayne will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and working alongside him.

Our sincere condolences go to Wayne's family and friends at this difficult time.
Rest In Peace, Wayne. Thank you for your friendship, dedication and service to our boating community.

Tuesday 27th October 2026 – Around 4pm Radio Operator Mary Brown received a call for assistance from a disabled jet skier near Tangalooma, there were 2 other skis in the group who would tow him toward Bribie Island. Bribie 1 skippered by Gary Voss and crewed by Wayne Robinson and Phil Hagen met the trio near East Knoll Channel and took over the tow to Sandstone Point Marina. The tow did not exceed 6 kts and the jet ski was rafted up to Bribie 1 for the entrance to the marina.

RADIO OPERATORS RETIRE
Tuesday 27th October 2026 was Murray Dennis’s last radio shift. At 9am four other operators recently retired; John Warner, John Hammond, Ian McKay, and Uldis Baltars joined Murray for cake and coffee (and soft drink) and a yarn.
Radio Officer John Rice, Unit Commander Gary Voss, Deputy Unit Commander Allan Tranter, Senior Rado Advisor Peter McNamara and Senior Radio Operator John Traill were also on hand. Both Peter McNamara and John Rice spoke about and thanked the guys for their commitment and their collective 65 years of volunteering. Unit Commander Gary Voss presented the retirees with Certificates of Appreciation and thanked them for their contribution.

PARKING SANDSTONE POINT HOTEL
Sunday 18th October 2026 - Our Supporters Association once again provided parking services for the Red Hot Summer Tour at the Sandstone Point Hotel. It was a sold-out event with artists including Australian Crawl, Men at Work, Birds of Tokyo and more. The morning was very busy and carpark full by 1445hrs. Thanks to all attending to raise valuable funds. Many went to the concert afterwards.
