Marine Rescue Bribie Island

Marine Rescue Bribie Island Marine Rescue Bribie Island is a volunteer organisation that provides a 24/7 vessel rescue and assistance service to the community 365 days a year.

We are part of Marine Rescue Queensland, which is the new statewide volunteer marine rescue service.

Big day out in the wind. First a sailboat broke its anchor and was headed for the rocks and the bridge. The crew on Bribie 2 did a great job if rotten conditions to recover the vessel and put it safely on a mooring. Then a second vessel washed ashore and we had to drag it safely away from the rocks using a 4WD on the beach - it was too shallow for a rescue boat! The Water Police activated Bribe 1 to a SAR around Scarborough - it was blowing 30kts and the seas were nasty but the new boat handled it like a dream. Then another grounded vessel up the passage that we secured with an anchor late at night. What a day.

Sunday 12TH July 2026 - Deputy Radio Officer John Rice received a call from a grounded 11m Catamaran vessel at Gilligan’s Green requiring a tow back to Pacific Harbour canals. White Sunday Skipper and Senior Coxswain Wayne Sclater and crew Mark Purtell, Wayne Robinson and Damian Goodair along with 3 trainee crew Phil Helgesen, John O’Hagan and Denis Eames in Bribie 1 recovered the vessel with damaged steering rafted it up to Bribie 1 for control in the canals.

The decider, Game 3 at Suncorp Stadium was won comprehensively by the NSW Blues 30 – 12.
For $5 entry the usual footy fare was on offer – pies, hot dogs and toasties and drinks at our usual great prices. 24 members and partners attended. Thanks to Peter Morton as barman and Kelly Langworthy, Cheryl Robinson, and Brenda Allardyce for food preparation and serving.
Of course, then there is Murphy’s Law! Mark Horsburgh (the Callout Radio Operator) had to ensure the Medevac from Tangalooma was completed before joining his wife Adele at the function!

PARKING FOR BONFIRE NIGHT
Saturday 4th July 2026 – The Marine Rescue Bribie Island Supporters Association provided parking services for The Sandstone Point Hotel’s 10th Anniversary Bonfire Night. Starting at the venue from 2pm until 6pm.

THANK YOU JONKERS TOYOTA
Our magnificent Toyota HiLux 4X4 has been returned to Martin Jonkers Motors Morayfield. Since 2018 Ray Jonkers has supplied a brand-new Toyota HiLux 4X4 vehicle every 4 years, including maintenance, to VMR Bribie Island Inc and beautifully signed with decals. The vehicle certainly stood out wherever we went!

MRQ has delivered a tow vehicle to MRQ Bribie Island, so the vehicle was returned to Ray at Martin Jonkers Motors Morayfield by Peter McNamara (Radio Officer and former Management Committee member who initiated this sponsorship), Operations Manager Liz Radajewski (former VMR Commodore), and MRQ Deputy Unit Commander Allan Tranter (former VMR Vice Commodore and Unit Training Coordinator).

Thank you so much Ray for your extremely generous sponsorship of these magnificent vehicles, which always generated much interest wherever we took them.

Ray has also been a member of VMR Bribie Island and now MR Bribie Island Supporters Association since August 2008.
