Today is a National Day of Mourning as we honour the lives lost in the Bondi attack and stand in solidarity with our Jewish community.
The theme of this day is ‘Light Will Win’. As Jesus followers, we’re called to respond to darkness with light through prayer, compassion, and acts of kindness. As our nation comes together in remembrance, let’s believe for waves of justice and kindness to flow through our cities.
We join government buildings and many other organisations across the country in flying our Hills campus flag at half-mast. As we pause and reflect together, we encourage you to personally do something practical to mark this day:
- Light a candle in your window tonight
- Observe a minute’s silence at 7:01pm AEDT
- Perform a mitzvah - an act of kindness for someone in need
In times of darkness, Jesus reminds us that love and unity are more powerful than hate. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” Matthew 5:9 ESV
