Bundaberg SLSC volunteer lifesavers patrol Neilson Park Beach, Bargara on weekends and public holidays between September and Labour Day in May, between 9 a.m. during December and January. These patrols are supplemented by the Australian Lifeguard Service. Professional lifeguards (mostly drawn from the club's ranks) supervise Neilson Park on weekdays and Saturday mornings during Spring, Summer and

Easter school holidays. Lifeguards also guard nearby Kelly's Beach, providing an all-week service from December to May. The club has about 80 active lifesavers, who have received nationally-accredited training in aquatic rescues, emergency care, workplace health and safety, communications and surf awareness. Many have undertaken extra training to use advanced equipment and emergency care techniques and provide patrol leadership. Lifesavers undertake an annual fitness and skills proficiency. Bundaberg SLSC lifesavers typically perform a half-day patrol every three weeks (more often around Christmas/New Year and Easter holidays), in teams of 3-5 Bronze Medallion-qualified members. Equipment used includes rescue boards and tubes, inflatable rescue boats, spinal boards and extrication collars, Australian Standard flags and symbol signs, first aid kits and room, bag-valve-mask oxygen resuscitators, an automated external defibrillator and hand-held radios. In a typical year, Bundaberg SLSC lifesavers perform over 1000 preventative actions, provide over 50 first aid treatments and perform up to 5 rescues.
