The Ballarat Historical Society’s annual Nathan Spielvogel Oration is on Wednesday May 13 at the Ballarat North Community Centre. This year we are thrilled to have Professor Susan Lawrence as our guest speaker.

Professor Lawrence is Professor in the Department of Archaeology and History at Latrobe University. Her expertise is in the physical evidence of the recent human past and she is internationally recognised for her research on mining, rivers, and British colonisation. Susan's 2019 book 'Sludge: Disaster on the Victorian Goldfields' (co-authored with Peter Davies) was shortlisted for the Prime Minister's Literary Awards. In this Oration Professor Lawrence will explore how the gold rush changed Victoria’s environment and landscapes.

$10 entry fee - no charge to members of the Ballarat Historical Society and National Trust members.

A huge shout out and congratulations to whoever erected this stunning Anzac tribute on the corner of Humffray and Prest Streets in Mount Pleasant. Each silhouette has solar up-lights so this will look stunning in the night time.
Well done and Lest We Forget.
