It was an honour to be part of this flag raising! The leadership of the Youth Ambassadors is a powerful testament to the young people in our community, and the allyship of staff from each organisation was very heartwarming on that chilly autumn morning
Ahead of IDAHOBIT – the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia – on Sunday 17 May, we came together to raise the rainbow flag and recognise the importance of inclusion, respect and belonging.
Staff from East Gippsland Shire Council, Gippsland Lakes Complete Health (GLCH), Uniting, Victoria Police, our Youth Ambassadors and James Bush from GLCH’s H.E.Y (Healthy Equal Youth) Project joined together in solidarity with our LGBTQIA+ community.
IDAHOBIT serves as an important reminder that discrimination and exclusion continue to affect many LGBTQIA+ people in their daily lives.
By raising the flag, we are reinforcing our shared commitment to creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive community for all.
We proudly stand alongside our LGBTQIA+ community and remain committed to respect, equity and inclusion every day of the year.
