IN-STeP Launches E-Skills for Life to Build Digital Skills and Employment Pathways for Queenslanders
Townsville, Queensland – 28th September 2026
IN-STeP is launching E-Skills for Life, a 12-month Community Foundation Skills initiative designed to help unemployed and underemployed Queenslanders build the digital skills, confidence and workplace capabilities needed to succeed in today’s workforce.
As digital technology becomes increasingly important across almost every industry, many people face significant barriers to participating in training and employment. E-Skills for Life aims to address these barriers by combining nationally recognised training, personalised support, practical learning and direct connections with local employers.
The project will deliver three participant intakes over 12 months. Participants will undertake accredited units from Certificate I and II qualifications covering digital literacy, workplace technology and foundation skills. Training will be practical and hands-on, helping participants develop the confidence to use technology effectively while strengthening their language, literacy and numeracy skills through meaningful workplace-based activities.
IN-STeP General Manager Dean Wilson said the project was about more than simply teaching people how to use technology.
“Digital skills are now essential in almost every workplace, but having the technical skills alone doesn't guarantee someone will successfully move into employment. E-Skills for Life is about building the whole person – their skills, confidence, resilience and readiness for work.”
Each participant will receive individualised case management to identify their employment goals, address personal barriers and develop an Individual Learning and Employment Plan. Participants will also have access to wrap-around support and referrals to specialist services where required.
The program will connect participants with local employers, industry representatives and guest speakers, providing valuable insight into workplace expectations, current industry practices and employment opportunities across the Townsville region.
Eligible participants may also access IN-STeP’s Learner Driver Program, recognising that access to a driver licence can be a significant factor in securing and maintaining employment in regional communities where public transport options can be limited.
Through the combination of accredited training, individual support, industry engagement and practical employment pathways, E-Skills for Life aims to improve digital capability, strengthen workforce readiness, increase confidence and support participants to transition into sustainable employment or further education.
This Skilling Queenslanders for Work project is proudly funded by the Queensland Government.
IN-STeP is committed to helping Queenslanders overcome barriers, build their capabilities and take their next step towards a more confident and productive future.
