🌿 A beautiful day to be out in our gardens, listening to the sounds of nature and taking in the peaceful surroundings 🌿

Spending time in our gardens gives us the opportunity to slow down, connect with Country and learn through nature.

We are proud to recognise the leadership and dedication of our long-serving staff. Next, we acknowledge Ms Tanya, our School Principal, who has been part of the Murri School community since 1998.

MS TANYA SALTNER:
Ms Tanya began her journey with The Murri School in 1998 as a Primary School Teacher. Over the years, she has taught across a range of year levels, shaping the learning journeys of countless students with care, dedication, and a strong cultural understanding.
Her leadership was recognised when she stepped into the role of Deputy Principal of the Primary School, where she supported staff and students with strength, guidance, and integrity. For a number of years, Ms Tanya balanced both roles — teaching in the classroom in the mornings and undertaking her Deputy Principal responsibilities in the afternoons — a true reflection of her dedication and commitment to the school.
Following the departure of our long-standing Principal and changes within the Board of Directors, Ms Tanya played an integral role in guiding the school through a significant period of transition — helping to steady, strengthen, and lead the Murri School forward.
In 2022, she was appointed as the School Principal, continuing her commitment with a deep understanding of the school’s history, its people, and its future.
Ms Tanya’s journey reflects years of dedicated service, strong leadership, and a deep commitment to our children, our culture, and our community.

Recently, The Murri School marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter with our Sod Turning Ceremony for our Early Years Learning Centre.

Surrounded by Elders, staff, student representatives, community members, and our building partner Melrose, we came together to celebrate this important milestone — not just turning soil, but honouring our journey, our people, and our future.

As we celebrate 40 years of The Murri School, this project represents four years of planning, persistence, partnerships, and a shared commitment to our children and community.

Our new Early Years Learning Centre will be more than just classrooms. It will be a place where our youngest learners feel safe, strong and connected — where culture sits at the centre of learning, identity is nurtured, and strong foundations for lifelong success are built.

And how gorgeous did our gold ceremonial shovels look marking such a special moment ✨

Construction has now commenced over the school holidays, with completion expected around October/November.

We thank our Elders, community members, partners and special guests for walking alongside us and sharing in this moment.

As part of our 40 Year Celebrations, we are proud to recognise the incredible contribution of our long-serving staff members. Up first is Aunty Gail, who has been with the Murri School since 1991.

AUNTY GAIL LOCKE:
Aunty Gail began her journey with The Murri School in 1991 as a dedicated volunteer. Later that same year, she transitioned into a part-time role before becoming a full-time Teacher Aide. From the very beginning, she also took on the important responsibility of caring for the school’s small library collection.

She was part of the school community during its early years at Dornoch Terrace and continued through its transition to Milton in 1996–1997. Since the move to Acacia Ridge in 1998, Aunty Gail has been a constant presence as our Library Aide, now serving as Library Coordinator and School Officer.

Across more than three decades, Aunty Gail has quietly shaped a space that supports learning, curiosity, and connection for our students. She often acknowledges the guidance of librarians and colleagues along the way, reflecting the strong sense of community that surrounds her work.

Her journey mirrors that of the school itself — growing, evolving, and strengthening over time. Aunty Gail’s contribution is a lasting one, and we are deeply grateful for her commitment to our students and our community.

This mornings exercise program kicked off with skipping to get our hearts pumping.
Out students and staff jumped straight into the fun, building their fitness, coordination and confidence all at the same time.
A simple activity, big benefits and plenty of laughs along the way 😂😂

🐻🧺 Teddy Bears’ Picnic with our Prep Class 🧺🐻

Our Prep class had the most beautiful morning last week as they enjoyed a special Teddy Bears’ Picnic with Ms Gina 🥰

With their favourite teddy bears by their side, our little ones gathered together to share stories, laughter, and yummy treats. There were big smiles, gentle cuddles, and plenty of imagination as the teddies joined in on all the fun too.

A big thank you to Ms Gina for creating such a magical morning for our Prep class.
