🫏❤️ Lorenzo knows the routine... and he takes it very seriously.

Every afternoon, all it takes is a call of "Lorenzo!" and our handsome old gentleman will slowly make his way across the yard, follow us to the shed and head straight into his stable for dinner. 🍽️

It might look simple, but this little ritual is actually incredibly important.

At Cranky's FARM, all of our residents follow a very consistent daily routine. Breakfast is at the same time every morning. Dinner is at the same time every afternoon. Residents are moved between paddocks and yards in predictable ways, and their carers follow familiar patterns every single day.

Why?

Because animals thrive on routine.

Knowing what is going to happen, when it is going to happen, and who is going to be there helps reduce stress and anxiety. It creates a sense of safety and security, particularly for animals who have experienced neglect, abandonment, trauma or uncertainty in their pasts.

Routine also allows us to closely monitor everyone's health and wellbeing. When an animal suddenly doesn't show up for breakfast, isn't interested in dinner, or behaves differently from their normal routine, it can be one of the first signs that something isn't right.

For Lorenzo, who is both blind and deaf and now well into his senior years, routine is even more important. The predictability of daily life helps him confidently navigate his world and gives him the reassurance that everything is exactly as it should be.

And judging by how enthusiastically he heads into his stable every afternoon, he's certainly not about to miss dinner. 😄🫏💚

Every routine, every meal, every stable cleaned and every animal checked is made possible thanks to the support of our wonderful community. Thank you for helping us provide the consistency, care and security our residents deserve.

🌱🐮 The Cranky Cows are very happy today! 🐮🌱

The herd is making the most of a paddock full of lush green pasture and watching them spread out and graze contentedly is one of those simple sights that never gets old. 💚

What many people don't see is that this doesn't happen by accident.

The reason our cattle have access to pasture like this is thanks to the careful work of our Operations Manager, Brett. Pasture management might not be glamorous, but it's one of the most important jobs at the sanctuary.

Every paddock must be carefully managed to prevent overgrazing, allow grass to recover, maintain soil health, minimise weeds and ensure the cattle always have safe, nutritious forage available. It's a constant balancing act that requires planning months ahead.

Good pasture management doesn't just benefit the cows. Every mouthful of grass they eat is one less mouthful we need to buy as hay. With more than 30 cattle in our care, that makes a huge difference to our feed bill and helps every donated dollar go further.

The reality, however, is that even a beautiful paddock like this won't last long. A herd this size can consume all of this grass in around a week before they're back to relying heavily on hay.

Right now, our cattle are eating around four large round bales every two days, with each bale costing almost $200. That's close to $400 every day in hay costs alone.

Providing lifelong sanctuary is about far more than rescuing animals. It's about ensuring they continue to receive exceptional care year after year through proper land management, quality nutrition, veterinary care and long-term planning.

It's not always the most exciting work and it doesn't always make for dramatic social media posts, but it's what allows our residents to truly thrive.

If you'd like to help us continue providing this level of care for the Cranky cows and our other rescued residents, please consider making a donation, becoming a sponsor or sharing our work.💚🐮

🐴🚨 URGENT FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME NEEDED – TWO HORSES AT RISK OF HAVING NOWHERE TO GO 🚨🐴

We have been contacted regarding two horses in the Mt Mee area who are in urgent need of a safe place to go.

Their elderly owner’s property has been sold and the horses must be relocated by this Sunday (YES, TOMORROW!). Unfortunately, the new property owners do not want them to remain, leaving very little time to find a solution.

The horses have been paddock companions for the past several years and ideally would remain together:

According to their owner, they are currently living on grass and are generally low-maintenance horses.

At this stage, we are simply trying to help connect these horses with a safe and suitable foster or permanent home before the deadline arrives.

As always, our greatest concern is what may happen if a safe option cannot be found in time. We know many horses facing urgent rehoming situations can become vulnerable to ending up in the wrong hands, and we would love to prevent that outcome if possible.

✅ Foster homes considered
✅ Permanent homes welcomed
✅ Located at Mt Mee, QLD
✅ Must be able to provide appropriate horse care, fencing, feed and veterinary attention if required

If you believe you can help, please contact us urgently via private message or email.

Even if you cannot take them yourself, please share this post far and wide. Sometimes the right person sees a post at exactly the right time, and sharing could be the reason these two friends stay safe and together.

This is an assisted rehoming request. These horses are not residents of Cranky's Farm Animal Rescue Mission. Any potential homes will be referred directly to their owner for consideration. 💚🐴

🚨🆘 URGENT HOME NEEDED FOR TWO BONDED THOROUGHBREDS 🆘🚨

PLEASE NOTE: This is an assisted rehoming. Cadence and Ruin are not Cranky's Farm residents. We have simply been asked to help find them a safe and loving new home.

We are urgently seeking a home for these two beautiful Thoroughbreds who are facing an uncertain future through absolutely no fault of their own.

Their current agistment property at Cainbable, QLD is under contract and, once the sale settles, they will have nowhere to go. Time is running out to secure a suitable home for them and we are hoping our wonderful community can help.

💔 Cadence and Ruin have been together for the last five years and are extremely bonded, so they must remain together.

🌟 CADENCE
12-year-old bay Thoroughbred mare with three white socks. Sweet, gentle and full of personality. Although a little shy when meeting new people, she quickly forms strong bonds and is a kind, trusting horse once she feels safe. She comes when called, whistled for or clapped to and has lived happily alongside goats, sheep and cattle.

🌟 RUIN
13–14-year-old brown Thoroughbred gelding with a small white dot on his forehead. Affectionate, friendly and always looking for a scratch or a pat. He loves human company, enjoys swimming in dams and has a calm, loving nature that makes him a pleasure to be around.

💕 ABOUT THE PAIR
✔ Must stay together
✔ Child friendly
✔ Good with goats, sheep and cattle
✔ Well handled and easy to catch
✔ Up to date with farrier care, worming, tetanus and strangles vaccinations

These horses are not just looking for another paddock. They are looking for security, stability and a future together.

The reality is that without a new home, they will be left with nowhere to go when the property sale settles. We know there must be someone out there with the space, experience and kindness to give these deserving horses the safe future they need.

If you can help, or know someone who can, please contact Cranky's FARM as soon as possible.

📢 Please share. The right person may be just one share away, and for Cadence and Ruin, that share could make all the difference. ❤️🐴🐴

🐴🫏 Hoof trims might not be the most glamorous part of running a sanctuary, but they are one of the most important.

Every five weeks, all six of our equines — Lopez the horse, Jonny and Junior the ponies, and our three donkeys Jack, Hannah and Lorenzo — receive a professional hoof trim to keep their feet healthy, comfortable and functioning as they should.

At $65 per animal, that's $390 every five weeks, or around $338 every month, just for hoof care alone.

But that's only a small part of what it costs to care for them. Three of our equines require ongoing medication, they all receive regular dental care, vaccinations, parasite management, daily pelletised feed, hay when pasture isn't sufficient, and specialised care tailored to their individual needs. Three are rugged during winter and one wears a fly sheet throughout summer.

When all of these costs are averaged across the year, it costs us approximately $1,100–$1,300 every single month to provide the standard of care our six equines deserve.

And that's why regular support from our community is so important.

While one-off donations are always appreciated, it is regular monthly contributions that allow us to budget, plan ahead and ensure we can continue providing ongoing care to animals who depend on us every day of their lives.

These beautiful souls don't know what a sponsorship is, or where their next hoof trim, dental check or bag of feed comes from. They simply trust that we'll be there to provide it.

With your help, we can.

Thank you to everyone who supports our equine residents and helps us continue giving them the safe, happy and cared-for lives they deserve. 💚

🌅 Good Morning from Cranky's Farm! 🐮🐷🐐🦆

Ever wondered what our mornings look like?

Every single day starts bright and early with the same familiar routine: opening night yards, checking on residents, handing out breakfast, topping up water, administering medications where needed, and making sure everyone is happy, healthy and ready to start their day.

From the moment we step outside, the residents know exactly what's coming. In fact, most of them are already waiting for us! 😄

Routine is incredibly important for farm animals. Just like people, animals feel more secure when they know what to expect. Consistent daily routines help reduce stress and anxiety, make it easier to identify when something isn't quite right, support healthy eating habits, and create a sense of safety and stability. For many of our residents, especially those who came from neglectful, abusive or uncertain situations, predictable routines are an important part of their ongoing rehabilitation and wellbeing.

Our morning routine takes around 1 to 1½ hours every day, followed by another full round of feeding, checks and bedtime duties in the afternoon and evening. Rain, hail, heatwaves, public holidays, birthdays, Christmas Day... the routine continues because the residents depend on us.

And honestly? We wouldn't have it any other way. 💚

These quiet morning moments—greeting sleepy faces, opening gates, and watching everyone eagerly head off for breakfast—are some of the best parts of sanctuary life.

Thank you to everyone who helps make these daily routines possible through your support, donations, sponsorships, shares and encouragement. Every meal served and every gate opened is only possible because of you.
