Marking the International Day Against Nuclear Tests in Vienna, at an event co-organised with the Permanent Mission of Kazakhstan and United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs, Rob Floyd highlighted the essential role of the and the importance of each generation building on the work of those before it - a shared commitment passed forward.

Two days at United Nations Headquarters in New York, built around a single message: nuclear weapon test explosions must end, once and for all.

Rob Floyd marked the International Day against Nuclear Tests, , and 30 years of the with partners, organizations and Youth for CTBT young leaders who have all carried this Treaty from signature to near-universal support.

He opened Friday with a diplomatic seminar bringing 100+ delegates into the detail of the Treaty ahead of the First Committee, joined by United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs High Representative Izumi Nakamitsu.

The day continued with a ribbon-cutting at a retrospective exhibit charting what three decades of political and technical work have built.

At the high-level event that followed, the Executive Secretary set out the task ahead: holding the moratorium, and sustaining the monitoring system that detects nuclear tests.

Saturday closed the two days with the planting of a commemorative tree. This tree, much like the norm against nuclear testing, will need our attention and support to grow.

One Treaty. One Goal. Zero tests.

29 August marks the International Day against Nuclear Tests, . 35 years since Semipalatinsk closed, 30 since the opened for signature: fewer than a dozen tests since, down from over 2,000. "What has taken 30 years to build can be lost far more quickly," says Rob Floyd.
