Jorge Goncalves Romero is a Venezuelan-Portuguese artist whose work explores light, color, human identity, and the emotions that connect us across cultures and borders. Born in Venezuela to a Portuguese family and living in Vienna, his artistic vision reflects a life shaped by different worlds. His paintings use strong forms and contrasts to explore memory, solitude, belonging, and the inner self.

Francisco Rubiel Osorio Faber is an American-Austrian-Colombian artist, born in the United States in 1983. He grew up between Cali, Colombia, and New York City, and today lives in Vienna, Austria. Moving between these places has shaped the way he sees himself and the world around him. His work comes from this feeling of being connected to different places, but never completely belonging to just one. He works mainly with painting, drawing from nature, memory, abstraction, and everyday experience

“We wanted to know what belonging means. We need to do something to show the people that you are exactly like me, but different, and this difference is part of you. This is a new energy that you are bringing to make our country better and not worse.”

In our latest interview, we talked with Mexican visual artist, curator, and cultural manager Sonia Siblik to discuss her artistic journey, curatorial vision, and her work featured in the Belonging Across Borders exhibition at the Yunus Emre Institute Gallery in Vienna. 🇦🇹

With a rich background in pedagogy and therapeutic education, Sonia brings a deeply humanistic perspective to her practice. As the founder of LichTraum by Sonia Siblik and BasementArt in Vienna’s 9th district, she has dedicated years to fostering international, intercultural, and interdisciplinary collaboration across the arts.

Sonia also took part in “Wir bewegen die Welt” (We Move the World) a collaborative acrylic triptych symbolizing connection, responsibility, and shared human journeys. Featuring a central heart whose delicate threads reach toward surrounding gears, a compass, and a world map, it reflects how we simultaneously inhabit and shape the systems around us.

“Water crosses territories without belonging to a single place, carrying memory while continuously transforming.”

In our latest interview, we talked with Vienna-based transdisciplinary artist Juliana Herrero and discussed her compelling work, “After the Current” (2026), featured in the ICDO’s Belonging Across Borders exhibition at the Yunus Emre Institute Gallery in Vienna. 🇦🇹

Being from Argentina, moving between South America and Europe, Juliana’s practice explores displacement as a form of multiple belonging. Born from underwater experiences in Vienna’s Old Danube, her piece uses ink, acrylic, milfoil debris, and imprints from repurposed market nets to capture the fluid boundaries between human perception and nature.

“Unlike institutionalized remembrance, which comes with a preset interpretation and purpose, individual, emotional memory can sometimes be vague, open to meaning, and therefore alive. On this level of remembering, we remain connected and belong across all borders.”

In our latest interview, we talked with Austrian architect, artist, and cultural manager Bernhard Schneider .1 to explore his striking multi-layered work, “Memories of Another Summer”, featured in the ICDO’s Belonging Across Borders exhibition at the Yunus Emre Institute Gallery in Vienna. 🇦🇹

Combining oil, acrylic, plant parts, exoskeletons, and epoxy resin, Bernhard creates “time capsules“ that reflect on how personal, living memories connect humanity across borders.

Not only one of our favorite exhibitors, but also an essential partner in the coordination of the art exhibition, has been a long standing friend of ICDO for many years.
University of the Philippines Fine Arts graduate and former 12-year animator, Norlie Meimban is a full-time painter who treats art as a living, moving entity. He is recognized for his signature style of fusing animation drawing techniques into canvas paintings to create dynamic, vibrant works that challenge traditional artistic conventions. A three-time Metrobank Art Competition winner and 2009 GSIS Juror’s Choice recipient, Meimban belongs to the prestigious MADE NOW roster. His innovative art has been featured in major exhibitions across the Philippines, Asia, Europe, and the US, including ICDO's exhibitions in Vienna, Austria.
