🙌 BUSINESS MEMBER SUCCESS 🇯🇵

Elliot Riley-Walsh, founder and CEO at Valart, sought the support of GlobalWelsh's hub lead Dr Sarah Louisa Birchley in Tokyo and as a result has made some real inroads in the Japanese collectors market.

Great to see the value of strong global Welsh connections coming to fruition for Welsh entrepreneurs. We can't wait to see what Elliot does next.

☎️ WALES ALEADY HAS AN INVESTOR NETWORK, IT JUST HASN'T CALLED THEM YET 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

"Whenever inward investment in Wales comes up, the conversation seems to end in the same place. How do we get more of it? And how do we get it into the parts of Wales beyond the M4 corridor?

'I think this year gives us a genuine chance to answer both. We have a new Welsh Government, a new international development agency being designed from scratch, and a Westminster committee that has told government, in plain terms, to take the Welsh diaspora seriously. Having spent years talking to that diaspora, I can say with some confidence that they are ready to be asked."

In our latest article Walter May explores why Wales' diaspora should sit at the heart of the push for inward investment, especially beyond the M4 >> https://bit.ly/4iV5ewg

🇺🇲 US Vs WALES: HOW DO BUSINESS PRACTICES REALLY DIFFER? 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

"For Welsh companies, the US isn't quite a foreign market in the way it is for most exporters. An estimated 2 million Americans claim Welsh ancestry, more than the rest of the Welsh diaspora abroad combined, and that history is still visible today in the Welsh chapels, place names, and family surnames scattered across Pennsylvania, Ohio, and parts of Appalachia..."

"That shared history and language can create a false sense of familiarity, though. Business in America runs on a different set of norms to business in Wales, and the companies that do well there tend to be the ones who understand the differences rather than assume things will work the same way just because everyone's speaking English."

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 WHAT IS THE ECONOMIC POTENTIAL OF THE WELSH DIASPORA? 🌍

"In the recent Welsh Government election the Plaid Cymru manifesto proposed a comprehensive Diaspora Strategy to engage the estimated 3–4 million Welsh people living abroad, treating them as a valuable asset for creativity, skills, and investment to boost innovation and growth in Wales.

'The question I am asked more than any other is this: how big is the opportunity, really? When we talk about mobilising the Welsh diaspora for economic benefit, are we talking about a handful of goodwill gestures from successful expats, or something that could genuinely move the needle for the Welsh economy?"
