Going down a 30m shaft mine for a Mozambique Spitting Cobra (Mutare, Zimbabwe)
Hope you all had a great weekend. Our weekend was one of a kind. We were called out for a Mozambique Spitting Cobra which was in a 30m deep shaft mine. Things Did Not go as planned Unfortunately😔😓...

Another successful Snake Rescue
On Wednesday we were called out for a snake which had been seen in the cottage bathroom. This snake had been seen for quite some days and they were no longer comfortable using that bathroom. They told us that they are used to stoning the snakes they see in their yard but this one they failed after several attempts as it is relatively fast moving and a very alert snake. Each time they attempted to kill it it would quickly take cover on the roof. We are glad we managed to save it and to also give the people peace of mind and some understanding on snake behavior. The snake is a beautiful harmless Spotted Bush Snake. It was released in the bush yesterday.
Hope you enjoy the 1min 30sec video. Apologies for the quality. We just thought of putting something together using the phone.
ZENWE SNAKE AWARENESS EXHIBITION(2) @MEIKLES PARK, MUTARE
Last time we served about 312 people. This time because we had added 2more hours we anticipated 600people BUT to our surprise we managed to serve at least 856 people with many others coming after 5pm so we unfortunately could not attend to them. We are really excited with this outcome and with the levels of interest shown by #Mutare_Manicaland Community in these Snake Awareness Programmes. Considering the extreme fear humans in general have towards snakes we do applaud this community for such an open mind. "Where there is a will there is a way", And the will in this case is just unbelievable. From the comments that we got from those who came we believe the road to the #Reduction_of_Human_SnakeConflict, #snake_bite_deaths in this community has been paved, there is so much hope.
Many thanks to H&M Productions ZW for this video with the highlights of the exhibition. Unfortunately due to high noise levels in the tent the audio of what was being discussed could not be used in this video. We shall try finding a few clips in the next few days which we will try adding subtitles and post on this platform. The News team from Diamond FM Zim also came through which was fantastic as the message to the community continued even after the exhibition.

#ZENWE_Orphan_Relief_Programme
Although the driving force to form the ZENWE Trust was based on the conservation and well-being of wildlife and the environment, there is no doubt that one can never achieve true wildlife and environment conservation without the human community at large getting involved and their welfare being taken into consideration. End of March 2018, our Executive Officer for Fundraising Programme, Andrea Beránková sent us some Easter eggs and chocolates to give to orphans to celebrate their Easter Holiday. #Knowledge_Nyamhoka (one of our trustees) directed us to Sakubva, a high density suburb of Mutare City, A community which he grew up in, lives in and is dear to his heart as he understands the struggles faced there having experienced them firsthand. It was following that Easter event that we visited different orphans’ residences and upon seeing the shattering poverty they are living in we couldn't help but take it upon ourselves to do something, thus the formation of "ZENWE Orphan Relief Programme".
Our definition of orphans, as many of these cases will sadly show (like in the video attached and other videos we shall post), are children under the age of 18 who have lost a parent or both parents through death, or illness (such as HIV) or abandonment. They are usually left in the care of a relation, in most cases a grandmother or a single guardian or parent, usually a mother. We do acknowledge that there are many sad stories of orphans in the world however if we (as a society) can come together and help even just a few that would make all the difference to those few people's lives.
Heading up this programme, is a self driven, compassionate woman, moved by her first hand experiences with orphaned children, their guardians and their communities in the high density and least privileged areas in Mutare, Shirley Hitschmann. We are grateful to have such a sympathetic soul as our Executive Officer of the ZENWE Orphan Relief Programme.

ABOUT Saturday 23 December 2017; First snake awareness exhibition ✔️😁
Despite the bad weather🌦️😓 and quite a few logistical problems we managed to set the hired tent up and the snake displays in the centre of Mutare at Meikles Park😅😊. We brought a Python, 2 Puff Adders, a Spotted Bush Snake, a Wolf Snake & our Snouted Egyptian Cobra called "Naja" who, of course, was the star attraction!
A big thank you to Leander Kandiero & Diamond FM Zim radio station for announcing the exhibition on the previous evening's broadcast🙏! The turn out was fantastic with 312 people visiting the exhibit until 1500hrs when regrettably we had to return the tent and turn people away! People were fascinated to see the snakes close up and we were flooded with questions to the extent that we were all hoarse at the end of the exhibition. People were amazed to see the Wolf Snake and the Spotted Bush Snake just lying comfortably in our hands and very interested as we explained to them how most of the snakes that occur in and around where we live are harmless and those that are venomous fulfill a key role in keeping certain species in check, such as rats and mice whose populations have exploded due to improper disposal of refuse.
Keep following us on FB and on our website as we will soon be gearing up to bring more snake awareness exhibits &more snake species to the people in and around Mutare and hopefully to the rest of Manicaland Province, funds permitting!

What kind of Earth would we be living on if it's without wildlife...
A doomed Earth?!... and yet this wildlife continues to face threat from us (human beings) in more ways than one. We talk about rescuing animals, but we are rescuing them from where and relasing them to where?? A lot of animals continue to lose their habitat, threatening their existence. The African Rock python is now a protected species in Zimbabwe because of the alarming rate at which its population has decreased.
We could work together and save the few habitats, wildlife has left with... Cecil Kop Nature Reserve is one. We are now at $821. Many thanks to all those who have donated so far. PLEASE every $ counts for a lot. If you are in Zimbabwe and wish to donate via Ecocash dial *151#... >Enter your pin... >Select option 2. Make Payment... >Select Option 2. All the way from Europe, Czech Republic, Andrea Helena Gabriela Beránková and husband Vitek have shown a great deal of support to us and we can not even begin to express how grateful we are. After hearing about the 2elephants, they took it upon themselves to learn more about Cecil Kop Nature Reserve and the challenges that we face in its management. On top of the generous donation of $60, using Philip & Shirley Hitschmann's beautiful video footage, they invested time and effort in compiling this spectacular video and linking it to a crowdfunding website so that funds to rebuild this beautiful Reserve can be raised.
Let us all come together and help in every way we can towards this fundraising effort. $4999 + $1 = $5000 - EVERY $ COUNTS, no matter how small you may think it is, It will definitely take us far. Below is the donation link:

THANK YOU SO MUCH Andrea & Vitek
April 10 2017 we came to you and we promised you Guided Walks in the forests of Cecil Kop Nature Reserve before end of year :). We are excited today to proudly announce that its IT'S OPEN &IT'S HAPPENING NOW!!!
Cecil Kop Nature Reserve, just like many projects in the country, had its rough patch during the period 2006-2012 which was mainly a result of poor management. 2012 the Reserve was taken over by a new committee which continues to work hard in trying to bring it back to life. Through ZENWE Trust some funds have been raised towards its rehabilitation and we continue to work tirelessly towards the rebirth of this Beautiful Reserve.
We would like to use this opportunity to express our warmest gratitude to Derrick Lane and High Voltage Construction for the support they gave us in kind which helped us fence up the bigger portion of the 1500 hectares Nature Reserve.
We would like to also thank the Manicaland Rovers (scouts) that came for the initial opening/launch of the walks Thomas Mabika, Tendai Nyabanga, Sharon Njanji, Primrose Muziwa, Esther Mabika, Percy Dapira, Raymond Makuwaza, George Nyoka, Tendai Muguyo and Gerald Boka who organised the team., .
