A joint Zimparks and ifaw wildlife conservation team is currently collaring six elephants in the Hwange landscape, a significant step towards understanding elephant movements and strengthening evidence-based conservation of one of ’s most important elephant populations.

Using GPS-enabled collars, the initiative will generate critical data on elephant movements, habitat use and ranging patterns across the wider landscape. This information will help identify key wildlife corridors, guide conservation planning, reduce human-wildlife conflict and promote peaceful coexistence between elephants and surrounding communities.

This important exercise reflects Zimbabwe’s commitment to science-driven, technology-enabled and collaborative conservation, and aligns with the recently launched Wildlife Research Strategy (2026-2036).

As the curtain falls on another successful edition of the World Tourism Expo, Zimparks proudly reflects on a week of meaningful engagement, collaboration and opportunity.

Throughout the Expo, we showcased the beauty, diversity and global appeal of ’s protected areas while highlighting our vision of creating integrated tourism circuits that connect national parks, recreational parks, wildlife estates, communities and other key tourism attractions.

The overwhelming interest, partnerships forged and valuable conversations held over the course of the Expo reaffirm a powerful truth: Zimbabwe’s wildlife and protected areas are strategic national assets that drive sustainable tourism, create livelihoods, attract investment and contribute meaningfully to economic growth.

While the Expo concludes today, our work continues. ZimParks remains committed to enhancing visitor experiences, strengthening conservation partnerships, unlocking new investment opportunities and positioning Zimbabwe as a leading nature-based tourism destination in Africa and beyond.

As custodians of Zimbabwe’s wildlife heritage and iconic tourism destinations, we remain firmly committed to positioning conservation and tourism as powerful, inseparable drivers of sustainable development.

The Roundtable, which was held as part of the 2026 Sanganai/Hlanganai Tourism Expo activities, brought together leaders from tourism, conservation, government, and the private sector to exchange bold ideas, strengthen strategic partnerships, and champion innovative solutions that balance economic growth, biodiversity protection, community participation, and destination competitiveness.

Today, Zimparks joins the global community in celebrating , honouring one of nature’s most important yet most misunderstood conservation heroes.
Vultures are the silent guardians of our ecosystems.

By swiftly removing animal carcasses, they help prevent the spread of disease, recycle nutrients and keep our environment healthy and balanced.
Yet these remarkable birds are facing a crisis. Across Africa, vulture populations are declining due to poisoning, habitat loss, collisions with energy infrastructure and illegal wildlife trade.

At ZimParks, protecting vultures is more than conserving a species. It is safeguarding biodiversity, strengthening ecosystem resilience and securing ’s natural heritage for generations to come.

This International Vulture Awareness Day, we call on everyone, communities, conservation partners, researchers, policymakers and citizens, to stand with us in protecting these vital birds.
