At Chikomborero Foundation, we believe healing happens in community. Not in isolation nor behind forced smiles. Healing begins when people feel safe enough to be seen, heard and understood.

This June and every month, we encourage honest conversations, meaningful connections, and the courage to ask for support when it is needed.

Because real strength is not suffering alone but real strength is knowing you don't have to.

June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month.

For generations, many men have been taught that strength means enduring pain in silence. That a man who keeps going, no matter what he's carrying, doesn't need help.

But what if breaking was never the problem?
What if the silence was?

At Chikomborero Foundation, we believe healing happens in community. Not in isolation nor behind forced smiles. Healing begins when people feel safe enough to be seen, heard and understood.

This June and every month, we encourage honest conversations, meaningful connections, and the courage to ask for support when it is needed.

Because real strength is not suffering alone but real strength is knowing you don't have to.

As we close Mental Health Awareness Month, we had the privilege of having Cathrine Keubokile Sebata engage with students from Mozy's Academy in Chinhoyi for a meaningful conversation on mental health.

The session created a safe space for young people to learn, reflect, ask questions, and openly discuss issues affecting their mental well-being. It was encouraging to see students actively participating and sharing their perspectives on a topic that continues to impact many young people today.

As we move beyond Mental Health Awareness Month, let us remember that mental health is not a one-month conversation. Let us continue checking on one another, listening without judgment and creating environments where people feel safe to speak and seek support.

Together, we can build a generation that is not only educated but also emotionally healthy, resilient and empowered.

Day 26: Mental Health Awareness Month with Chikomborero Foundation

"MENTAL HEALTH: MYTH VS FACT"

Why awareness matters
Many harmful beliefs about mental health continue to silence people, increase shame and stop individuals from seeking help. Awareness helps us separate truth from misinformation and reminds people that struggling mentally does not make someone weak, broken or alone.

Myth vs Fact

Voice of hope:
"Healing starts with hope and hope starts with one conversation. Take your time and speak to others about your situation, no one should struggle alone."

Children may forget certain words over time but they rarely forget how they were made to feel. The relationship between a mother and child often shapes how a person sees themselves. So when that relationship becomes emotionally painful, confusing, controlling, neglectful, the emotional effects can last for years.

And the difficult part is that many people grow up thinking these experiences were "normal," so they never realise how deeply those moments shaped their mental health.

Join us today as we talk about how unresolved emotional pain from a mother-child relationship can silently affect mental well-being later in life.

Day 24: Mental Health Awareness Month with Chikomborero Foundation

"YOUR ENVIRONMENT AFFECTS YOUR MENTAL HEALTH"

Why awareness matters
Because the spaces we live, work, learn and spend time in don’t just surround us they shape how we operate mentally. Many people struggle mentally not only because of what is happening inside them but also because of what they are constantly exposed to around them.

How to put this into practice
πŸ’š Notice how certain environments make you feel after being in them
πŸ’š Spend more time in spaces that feel safe and supportive
πŸ’š Reduce time in places that consistently drain your energy
πŸ’š Be intentional about the company and energy you surround yourself with

Voice of hope from Nompumelelo Mthethwa :
"Healing start with hope, and hope start with one conversation. Take your time and speak to others about your situation, no one should struggle alone."
