Exciting News from the STEM Emakhaya Outreach!
We are thrilled to share the recent experience at Inyathi High School, where the Elevate Trust hosted a STEM outreach program for over 500 students from 39 schools. As part of the Elevate Trust initiative under STEMLady Sicelo Dube, the goal was to expose students to opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and encourage them to pursue careers in these fields.
Women in Aviation International (WAI) Zimbabwe Chapter played a key role in the event, presenting on careers in aviation, sharing personal journeys, and empowering young girls to break barriers in male-dominated fields. We discussed various aspects of aviation, including:
- Civil Aviation: Exploring careers in aviation, engineering, pilot training, and cabin crew
- Scholarship Opportunities: Introducing WAI's annual scholarship program and encouraging students to become members
- Sustainable Development Goals: Focusing on quality education and gender equality
Our team had the pleasure of engaging with students in smaller groups, answering questions, and sharing experiences. Highlights included:
- Phonetic Alphabet Activity: Primary school students learned the phonetic alphabet used in aviation communication and even spelled their names using it!
- Mentorship: Students were inspired to pursue STEM subjects and careers, with many asking questions and seeking guidance
The STEM Emakhaya Outreach was a huge success, with students and mentors alike benefiting from the experience. We are grateful for the opportunity to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders and aviators!
To Inyathi High School, .trust , , and all participating schools and organizations for making this event possible. Let's continue to empower and inspire young minds to pursue their passions in STEM and aviation!
