Today, we held a lunch meeting with Hon Sikhuphukile Dube to discuss youth and women’s participation in governance. The discussions focused on gender equality and women’s empowerment in light of , particularly the clause seeking to merge the Zimbabwe Gender Commission (ZGC) into the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC).

Young women strongly expressed concern that this move could reverse progress made toward advancing gender equality in Zimbabwe. They also voiced opposition to both the clause and the broader bill, arguing that it undermines their constitutional rights to elect leaders of their choice and to be elected into public office.

Young women convened today in Mutare to discuss the possible implications of the proposed merger of the Zimbabwe Gender Commission into the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission. Today, under the constituency based advocacy, we met Hon Zivai Mhetu of Epworth North. The constituency based advocacy is aimed at strengthening youth engagement. Young people raised a lot of issues around civic engagement, constitutionalism, and service delivery. The topical issue was the , which is scheduled to be tabled in parliament soon for its first reading. The youths raised objection to the bill and impolered the Hon member of parliament to raise these issues during parliament debate on . We are grateful for Hon Mhetu for meeting us as young people and promising to take our issues to parliament. He is a product of the youth movement , and we are glad that he has walked the road & took some time to give us tips and sharpen our advocacy and lobbying skills.
