HOME: A SAFE PLACE
The session continued with a series of creative, participatory and reflective activities designed to help children explore the meaning of safety, protection, unity, communication and belonging.
1. 🏘️ Building Our Home :
The children worked together to build a model home using manila paper, sellotape and tins. The activity encouraged teamwork, creativity and cooperation while allowing the children to reflect on what makes a home a safe and supportive place.
Through building together, the children were encouraged to understand that a safe home is not defined only by its physical structure, but also by the love, care, respect, trust, protection and support shared within it.
2.🎨 Explore • Discuss • Reflect :
The children then came together in agreement to create a collective representation of a safe place. Each child dipped their thumb in paint and placed their thumbprint on the house/home made on a sheet of manila paper, contributing to one shared piece of artwork.
The activity symbolised unity and collective responsibility in creating safe spaces for children. Each thumbprint represented an individual contribution, demonstrating that when we come together, work in agreement and support one another,we can collectively create a safe place where everyone feels valued, protected and heard.
The activity further provided an opportunity for the children to discuss the importance of listening to one another,respecting differences, communicating openly and working together to build safer homes and communities.
3.🗣️ My Voice Matters :
The children were also encouraged to recognise that their voices matter. They explored the importance of speaking up when they feel unsafe or uncomfortable and identifying trusted adults whom they can approach for help, guidance and protection.
Through play,building,exploration, discussion and reflection the children were given an opportunity to learn, express themselves,work together and reflect on what it means to feel safe and protected.
The session reinforced a simple but powerful message which is:
My Home
My Safe Place.
My Voice Matters.
