Mahenye Dialogue Calls for Reform

On 21 April 2026, Poverty Alleviation Trust joined CRRT, Green Institute Trust, YETT, ActionAid Zimbabwe, Chipinge RDC, and PYCD at Mahenye Primary School for a Safe Space Dialogue.

The meeting came after the Lisungwe floods, which exposed gaps in disaster preparedness. Communities stressed that rescue alone is not enough—Zimbabwe’s Civil Protection Act must be modernized to prioritize women’s protection, rapid response, and resilience-building.

📻 Community radios were highlighted as lifelines for early warnings and amplifying grassroots voices. Together, civil society, government, and traditional leaders united to call for stronger laws and partnerships to protect vulnerable groups.

It's a way to gather information about vulnerable individuals or families. It's a safety net, making sure the right help gets to the right people at the right time without any discrimination.

Climate Financing for Community Resilience

Today, senior officials from Chipinge and Chimanimani districts met at the Chipinge RDC Boardroom for an Interlocal Authority Dialogue on Climate Financing, facilitated by Green Governance Africa.

The dialogue is aligning priorities, exploring joint climate finance opportunities, and mapping potential funders — with expected outcomes including an action plan, focal persons for proposal development, and a timeline for community consultations.

Young Graduates Unite to End Hunger and Poverty in Chipinge

Chipinge District, Zimbabwe — Founded in 2022 by a dynamic group of young graduates from diverse academic disciplines, the Poverty Alleviation Trust (PAT) has emerged as a beacon of hope and action in the fight against hunger and poverty.

At the forefront of this initiative is Lloyd Sithole, one of the founding members, whose vision and commitment have inspired fellow graduates to pool their knowledge, skills, and resources for the betterment of the community.

Driven by a shared mission of empowerment, PAT is dedicated to designing innovative, sustainable solutions that uplift vulnerable families, strengthen food security, and create pathways out of poverty.

> “Our mission is simple yet urgent — to combine our efforts and resources to ensure no family in Chipinge goes hungry, and every individual has the opportunity to thrive,” said Lloyd Sithole, speaking on behalf of the founding team.

Since its inception, PAT has mobilized young professionals to champion grassroots initiatives, including community feeding programs, livelihood projects, and awareness campaigns on sustainable development. By harnessing the energy and creativity of youth, the Trust aims to transform Chipinge into a model district for resilience and inclusive growth.
