We are thrilled to share that Brethren in Christ Compassionate and Development Services (BIC-CDS) recently attended the 66th edition of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Bulawayo. Under the theme "Connected Economies, Competitive Industries," our delegation of seven dedicated farmers and staff explored the future of climate-smart agriculture.
It was a day filled with invaluable learning and technical insights:

i) Climate Adaptation: Our team engaged with the Zimbabwe Free Range Poultry Association to discuss the resilience of indigenous breeds in the face of a changing climate.
ii) Value Addition: From cowpea flour to pearl millet instant porridge and sweet potato bread, we explored how small grains and biofortified crops can be transformed into competitive industrial products.
iii) Sustainable Farming: Farmers gained practical knowledge in moisture conservation through mulching, fingerling management in aquaculture, and the integration of modern mechanization for small grains.
iv) Mushroom & Horticulture: We delved into the full value chain of mushroom farming and toured nurseries featuring both indigenous and exotic fruit trees.

A Special Congratulations!
We are incredibly proud of Mr. Ncube Macebo, our farmer, who was recognized by the Bulawayo Agricultural Society. He secured 3rd Prize for both his Carrot and Beetroot exhibitions!.

The knowledge gained at ZITF 2026 regarding resilient livestock and innovative crop processing will be pivotal as our farmers return to their wards to share these insights with their communities. Together, we are building stronger, more competitive and climate-resilient local economies.

In attendance was the Brethren In Christ Church Zimbabwe Conference Bishop Ayibongwe Hlongwane, BIC-CDS board member, Mennonite Central Committee Zimbabwe, government departments, Gwanda Rural District Council and community members.

Today we recognise resilient women who serve in the BIC-CDS team. From those that ride motorbikes giving a part of themselves to reach the remotest areas, to those that create a conducive working environment for CDS work to continue and those that ensure the timely updates and reports are given to CDS and its partners. These are the women that are giving a part of themselves in order for other women in marginalized communities gain invaluable insight that inspires change so as to stand against climate change and its impacts.

Happening now at BIC-CDS bulawayo office is the training of enumerators for the annual data collection for selected outcome indicators. The MEAL Officer explores project overview, research ethics, target respondents and sampling approach, whilst the MEAL assistant facilitates the practical session on KoBoCollect the data collection software to be used in data collection.

BIC-CDS MEAL and Gender and PSEA Officer are attending a Mennonite Central Commitee SCAN region organized gender training in Zambia which aims to enhance gender tools and gender analysis towards gender equality in all spheres. MEAL and Gender personnel were brought together in-order to bridge the gap on gender analysis.BIC-CDS MEAL officer, had an opportunity to lead a session on KOBO build and KOBO collect in the meeting.
