Big news from BPC! 🤝

Yesterday we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Scripture Union Zimbabwe, and we are excited about what this means for the young people we work with.

Under this partnership, BPC will provide skills training to Scripture Union Zimbabwe participants. We are also going to explore other areas where our two organisations can work together, and look at joint resource mobilisation opportunities too.

Watch this space for updates as the partnership develops. Grateful for partners like Scripture Union Zimbabwe who share our commitment to empowering young people in Bulawayo and beyond.

Official Announcement – Appointment of Executive Director

The Board of Trustees and Management Board of the Bulawayo Projects Centre (BPC) are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Maxmillion Moyo as the substantive Executive Director, effective 1 May 2026.

Mr Maxmillion Moyo brings vast experience and technical expertise in vocational programming, entrepreneurship development, and youth empowerment. Over the past two decades, he has designed and led innovative training initiatives that equip young people and women with practical skills, foster enterprise creation, and promote sustainable livelihoods. His leadership has consistently delivered measurable impact, transforming vocational hubs into engines of opportunity and positioning BPC as a trusted partner in advancing inclusive economic development.

Since joining the Bulawayo Projects Centre (BPC) in 2007, Mr Maxmillion Moyo has steadily risen through the organisation’s leadership ranks – from Business Advisor to Programs Manager, then advancing to Technical Lead and ultimately Technical Specialist on multiple donor-funded programs. Over the years, he has been entrusted with leading complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives, consistently delivering innovation, measurable impact, and strengthening BPC’s reputation as a trusted development partner.

His appointment as Executive Director comes on the backdrop of a highly successful assignment spearheading entrepreneurship development and vocational training under the USAID-funded Takunda Project in Masvingo and Manicaland. This initiative transformed the livelihoods of thousands of youths and women, cementing BPC’s reputation as a trusted technical leader in enterprise incubation and skills development.

The Board is confident that Mr Moyo’s proven leadership, technical expertise, and vision will guide BPC into new strategic pathways, driving program evolution, strengthening institutional sustainability, and expanding opportunities for communities across Zimbabwe.

We wrapped up training for our BVTO participants on Thursday, another cohort through the doors and out the other side with new skills in hand.

Big thanks to BVTO for the partnership. Getting participants into a room (and keeping them there through a full training cycle) takes coordination on both ends, and it showed this time around.

Congrats to everyone who completed the programme. You showed up, put in the hours, and got it done.

Here's to the next one - BPC and BVTO, round two? 🥂

Everyone assumes BPC is a "youth" thing. Mostly true, but step into our Hotel and Culinary class, and you'll meet grandmothers plating desserts next to twenty-year-olds learning the same knife skills for the first time.

We've had church group members, women who raised their kids and are now building something for themselves, mothers running small cooking businesses in caravans or at home, who want to turn their cooking into a proper professional business. All in the same kitchen, same training, same certificate at the end.

If your group - church, mothers' union, savings club, whatever it is - has women who've been thinking "maybe I could do something with this," this is your sign. We train at all our hubs, Thorgrove, Cowdray Park, Nketa, Njube and Inkuzi Donnington. Please form groups of ten, and let's tailor a training for you to meet your needs.

In May, our monitoring team did the rounds across Bulawayo, checking in on trainees out on placement in welding, hospitality, retail, the beauty industry and hairdressing.

We caught them mid-task: torches lit in a metal workshop, pots going in a kitchen and food gardens, trainees on the aisles arranging products, and others mid-blow-dry in a salon chair. Across the board, supervisors had good things to say. The trainees show up, they pay attention, and they're picking things up fast.

It is a good reminder of why these visits are not a box-ticking exercise. They are how we catch a struggling trainee before it becomes a dropped-out trainee and how we know the skills we are teaching actually work once someone is standing in a real kitchen or workshop, not a classroom.

Training without follow-up is a hope. Training with monitoring is something you can actually stand behind.

On Wednesday, Bulawayo Projects Centre signed a 3-year training agreement with the Franciscan Missionaries of Divine Motherhood, and we are excited to share it with you.

The agreement brings training to participants who may otherwise not afford it, thanks to the funding partner.

We could not do this work alone. Reaching communities like the ones the participants come from only happens because organisations like the Franciscan Missionaries of Divine Motherhood choose to walk this road with us. So, thank you to them, and to everyone who has partnered with BPC over the years to make programmes like this possible.

We cannot help but drool over fruits, vegetables, and herbs thriving alongside flowering companions that attract pollinators in our model garden and nursery. It has taken time, but it has come out beautifully, with all types of trees, herbs, and vegetables, and indeed a place for community learning. Our landscape gardener, Besty Manase, and the volunteers he works with are transforming our open spaces into a community marvel. The place has also become a hub for community learning, as people in Bulawayo have a perfect space to learn how to turn their yards into productive spaces, save money, and improve family nutrition.
