Still reflecting on a recent mental wellness session we held with teachers from Cowdray Park High School at the Nkulumane Challenge Course.

What stayed with us was the honesty. Teachers opened up about the quiet realities they carry every day…the pressure to always appear strong, the emotional responsibility of supporting students beyond academics, and the burnout that rarely gets acknowledged.

It brought forward an uncomfortable but necessary truth: while teachers are pillars of our communities, their own well-being is often treated as secondary.

The session created space to challenge that.

Being outside the traditional school environment allowed for something different room to breathe, to reflect, and to connect on a human level. And in that space, one thing became clear: educators also need their cup to be filled from time to time.

Supporting our education systems means showing up for the people within them. It has to be intentional, structured, and sustained and it requires all of us.

We are committed to creating more spaces like this, but we know this work cannot be done in isolation. There is room for stronger partnerships, deeper investment, and shared responsibility in prioritising teacher well-being.

Still holding onto the openness, the energy, and the willingness to engage and looking ahead to what more we can build together.

Three of our young people recently attended an International Youth Network training that brought together delegates from different organizations to learn, connect, and collaborate. During the sessions, they explored the importance of meaningful youth participation and how young people can actively influence decisions at all levels. Key elements such as voice, influence, urgency, and power were emphasized, reinforcing the need for young people to be actively involved in decision-making processes. They also gained insight into the structure and role of youth networks, including the importance of collaboration and effective feedback systems.

The training also equipped them with practical skills in activity planning, including setting objectives, identifying target audiences, organizing resources, and engaging community stakeholders effectively.

On the second day, discussions focused on key issues affecting young people such as child marriages, drug and substance misuse, gender-based violence (GBV), climate change, and teenage pregnancies. Leadership development was another highlight, with participants identifying their strengths in areas like strategic thinking, influencing, ex*****on, and relationship-building.

The training concluded with sessions on advocacy and report writing, equipping them with tools to amplify youth voices and document their work effectively. Overall, the experience enhanced their understanding of youth participation, strengthened their advocacy and leadership skills, improved their report writing capacity, and expanded their networks. It was a truly impactful experience empowering them to drive change in their communities.

Young people must be part of shaping the policies that affect their lives.

Recently, we had the opportunity to participate in the public consultation organized by the Parliament of Zimbabwe on the National Drug, Substance Abuse Control and Enforcement Agency Bill (H.B. 12, 2025) and the Biological and Toxins Weapons Crimes Bill (H.B. 9, 2025) held at Stanley Hall.

During the consultation, we shared perspectives from young people and community work, emphasizing the importance of youth-centered prevention strategies, mental health support, and accessible rehabilitation services in addressing drug and substance abuse.

Following the consultation, the team from Million Memory Project Zimbabwe extended an invitation to all the Members of Parliament there present to visit our Challenge Course and Youth Centre in Nkulumane. The Members of Parliament who managed to visit the challenge course youth center were
Freedom Murechu Stanley Sakupwanya
Njelele, Honorable Emmerson Raradza and Honorable Dhanzi , where we showcased how the centre creates a safe and empowering space for young people through life skills development, psychosocial support, and youth engagement programs.

The visit also opened valuable discussions on strengthening collaboration with Members of Parliament to further support youth-focused initiatives within communities.

We remain committed to ensuring that young people are not only heard in policy discussions but are also supported through practical programs that build resilience, leadership, and positive life choices.
