DISCUSSES CIVIC DUTY ON ZNBC

recently featured on the Citizen’s Voice radio program on ZNBC Radio 2 to discuss various aspects within Zambia's democratic landscape. The conversation focused on unpacking the electoral process, evaluating political manifestos, and championing youth participation.

The electoral process is the cornerstone of Zambia's democracy, allowing citizens to choose their leaders and shape national policy. emphasized that this goes beyond just showing up on election day. It requires continuous awareness of voter registration, electoral laws, and voting rights to build public confidence and ensure every vote counts.

A manifesto is a political party's blueprint and social contract with the public. Understanding manifestos helps citizens assess whether a party's plans for the economy, healthcare, and education are realistic and measurable. Voters have the responsibility to critically analyze these documents rather than relying on campaign slogans.

Young people make up the Zambia's largest demographic, meaning their voices can actively shape the country's future. By voting, running for office, or leading civic campaigns, young people ensure their unique perspectives and needs are injected directly into governance.

ATTENDS THE ANTI-MONEY LAUNDERING AND COUNTERING FINANCING OF TERRORISM AWARENESS SESSION FOR NPOS IN ZAMBIA

On invitation by the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, Zambia Registrar for Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)🇿🇲, has attended the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Countering Financing of Terrorism (CFT) awareness session for Not-for-profit organizations (NPOs) in Zambia.

The meeting provided an opportunity to disseminate the findings of the terrorist financing risk assessment for the NPO sector, share information regarding Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Recommendation 8 requirements, recent changes to the Recommendation, and measures NPOs can take to protect themselves from terrorist financing abuse.

The meeting laid the foundation for stronger collaboration, sustained dialogue, trust-building, and coordinated action between regulators and the non-profit sector as Zambia prepares for the next round of Mutual Evaluations.

Attending this session transitions VSI from a passive participant to an active, compliant, and well-protected stakeholder in Zambia's non-profit sector. It ensures the organization remains legally resilient, financially secure, and strategically positioned for long-term growth.

The meeting was made possible with support from the Government of the Republic of Zambia, SecFin Africa, and the Civic Advisory Hub.

ATTENDS OPENING CEREMONY OF THE 2026 CREATIVE CONVERGENCE

Lusaka is hosting a major five-day gathering of Africa's creative leaders including filmmakers, musicians, fashion designers, investors, and policymakers, at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre. The event combines the 2026 Creative Industries Business Summit, Africa Creative Market, and Kwimbo National Arts Festival.

Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts Permanent Secretary Kangwa Chileshe opened the summit by outlining Zambia's recent reforms. These include creating a dedicated Arts department, launching the first National Arts Policy, removing import duties on creative equipment, and joining the ATA Carnet system for easier cross-border movement. He also noted that over 3,000 creatives have received financial literacy training, while more than 2,000 are now covered by a social security scheme offering pensions, maternity benefits, and credit access.

Africa Creative Market founder Dr. Inya Lawal urged countries to move beyond celebrating talent and instead build a creative economy rooted in intellectual property and cross-border partnerships. Nigeria's Acting High Commissioner Chinyere Epelle called music, film, fashion, and gaming untapped opportunities for growth and global influence.

UNDP Zambia representative Dr. James Wakiaga pushed for more investment in young creatives through better access to finance and technology.

As an organization focused on community service, social change, and youth empowerment in Zambia, this event positions VSI perfectly at the intersection of public policy, economic transformation, and youth development.
